RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 12, 2008 And for our final offering for the evening, we have something that’s been a long time coming. After a whole year of visits to Bierkraft I finally make the move to growlers. And what better a brewery to lose my Bierkraft growler virginity than Legacy?
Pours a nice brown touched gold with a thick off white head. Nose is extremely heavy floral hops with a soapy edge. Very, very perfumed character. Flavor is extremely smooth for a DIPA. I would never know this was 9% at all. Just a nice balanced hop ride that isn’t blowing me away, but it carries just enough punch to make it interesting. For a double, it could be bringing more complexity. But it’s still nice. Feel has a full carbonation and the liquid is nice. A nice production. Well done. Apologies to Legacy for taking so long to try any of their productions. But I guess this was as good a one as any to do it with.
Angeloregon (1488), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 6, 2008 Thanks to Lem for sharing this beer on the 4th of July--Poured a sharp orange-amber body, light with a small white head. Floral, but not overpowering hops nose. Very light and smooth all the way through considering ABV. Bitter grapefruit and tropical fruit finish. Crisp and medium bodied. Really hard to believe this beer is as strong as it is. Alcohol well masked. Bitterness echoes in the finish. Boo yah! coldbrewky (451), Saugerties, New York, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bomber from the rip and run. Yesterday was my hop day. Pours a sparking amber/orange. head is small and has some nice lacing Nose is light and has a bit of hops in it but not as strong as I would expect from an IIPA. Body ios short and lacks any complexity for me. mineral and tin flavors abound. Al;cohol is pretty well hidden, but the metallic tones just killed this whole thing for me. GAManiac (178), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 30, 2008 Pours a clear deep amber with a dense one-finger head that shows very good retention and leaves only a hint of delicate lacing. Aroma starts with a big pine hop presence which gives way to a generous biscuity malt backbone and a citrus hop smell with grapefruit and oranges. The taste matches the smell with a bitter pine resin taste up front followed by the bready malt sweetness. The hop bitterness comes back in full force in the finish and lingers between sips. The mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation and a crisp yet bitter finish. This is a good DIPA, but the drinkability is limited by the bitterness. cbeers21 (348), Miami, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2008 Great name. Nice copper pour with foamy head, which quickly fades. Based on what the style or the name sugguests, not as hoppy as I would have thought. Decent piney citrus flavors with sweetish maltiness pervading. I was expecting a stronger hops presence.
NOTE: I tasted this after a series of SERIOUSLY hoppy brews so possibly my palate had been rendered ineffective, despite my best attempts to cleanse it. Will rate this brew again later, although I did enjoy this tasty brew... Tweety (151), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Jun 25, 2008 ACBF 2008. The hops in this one are just a little too raw for my tastes, but the true hopheads probably love it.
