3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CamdenD (825) - Madrid, - JAN 14, 2010
Impressive at 15.3. Certainly a beer that would do better with some bottle refinement. On tap this beer is abrasive. Not overly sweet or bitter, it’s incredibly well-balanced for such power. Legend should experiment more.

12 oz bottle 13% abv purchased at Libbie Market. The barlywine poured a deep reddish brown. Very little head and a sweet aroma of prunes or plums. The higher alcohol has a numbing affect as you drink the ale. Sweetness of prunes and raisins with little or no hops in the taste. Medium body with soft carbonation. Smooth finish a sweet aftertaste. This is local a product but a class of beers that I have limited experience.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 theyshookhands (228) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 9, 2012
Pours a nice clear black with a tan head that doesn’t exist after the pour. Aroma is of alcohol, roasted malts, notes of fruit and caramel and a little chocolate. Lots of alcohol, strong finish, nice malt presence. Good sipping beer.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 tia (467) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - JAN 8, 2012
Tap @ Legend. Dark brown witcreamy mocha head. Dissipates. Smells like buttered rum. Sweet but followed by a hop stop. Boozy. (Tasting note- the Tabasco from dinner is still hanging around so I may not have the clearest palate.)
3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 freekyp (1296) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - DEC 31, 2011
Legend’s barleywine is a massive affair, pouring a murky dark mahogany, the huge alcohol content supports a small fizzy head for only a fleeting moment. Aroma is complex and rife with whiskey, raisins, coffee, prunes, and dark cherry. Hot with alcohol and quite bitter, the hops still don’t have the umpf to cut the huge amount of sweet malt here.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 laiti (1712) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 25, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2011 Draught @ Bakushu Club Popeye, Tokyo. 14,5% version (2011?), rated on 05.09.2011
Mahogany colour, no head. Aroma has sweet caramel, some oaky notes. Actually rather close to Utopias but less alcohol and more sweetness. Flavour has also some alcohol. It is rather woody with oak and some vanilla‐like cognac notes. Acrid finish, rather weird stuff but still good in some way.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ibrew2or3 (4985) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUL 3, 2011
Bottle courtesy of ksurkin pours deep clear gold with off white head. The aroma is pears, apples, wheated malts and some boozy heat at the end of the draw. The taste has a mead like sensation along with sweet malts, apples, pears, floral hops and booze. Pretty interesting barleywine for sure.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 markwise (2914) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 1, 2011
Thanks to IBrew2or3 for this one, the barley wine man! Pours a caramel color with a tiny white head. Nose is honey, caramel, toffee, booze, and some fruity notes that quick burn off and turn to booze. Flavor is similar and very boozy. I think this one will still be hot in about 5-10 years.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 maniac (3474) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 2, 2011
On tap at the brewpub on 11/07/2010. Clear caramel amber body with a small white head. Sweet fruit (grape) and caramel aroma. Sweet grape falvor with light caramel and some floral hops. Full body with moderate carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Velkyal (220) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - FEB 23, 2011
Pours a rich amber with a light tan head and little lacing down the glass. The nose is dominated by sweet caramel malts. Taste is dollops of toffee, a touch of hot alcohol, some caramelised oranges in there as well. Generally very pleasant, though the hangover after polishing off a growler of this stuff was a bitch.
