Pours a dark amber, no head. Aroma is fruity and floral, malts and toffee as well. Flavor is dominantly hoppy, with lots of sweet caramel and toffee to balance. Slightly sweet/bitter finish.

Dark ruby color. Smells of red grapes, sour and thatís pretty much it. Holy alcohol. Red grapes, oak barrel and bourbon taste. Fairly young tasting with a sharp twang. Sweet and tropical. Too many things going on here that werenít in harmony with each other. Thanks for bringing this one, BBB63!

Had this at the Tosa tasting. 2005 bottle. Aroma: Hoppy, sweet malt, oranges. Appearance: Shiny mahogany color. Thin weak off white head. Decent carbonation. Flavor: Sweet, acedic flavor, grass hoppiness. Palate: Acedic, so-so carbonation. This is the "worst" barleywine Iíve had. Perhaps aging this would make it better?

2005 bottle, from Kinz and opened at the íTosa gathering: Reddish hue with a mall off-white head and outstanding lace for such little carbonation. The aroma has notes of vanilla, whisky, caramel, coconut, and hard water. Not so much vinous as it more like aged liquour on the nose. The taste has a big biting sharpness and snap of young hops on top of sweet and syrupy malts. A bit fruity and acidic throughout, which makes it more interesting, but less like a barleywine. The feel is sticky and lush upfront with a big metallic feel on the backend and a touch of alcohol noted. This has some good depth but has not integrated the taste. Perhaps some aging well help, just not too much.

bottle from tchrome shared with the boulder assasins. poured dark reddish brown with a thin skim of dark grey head. chocolate raspberry aroma with noticeable alcohol. love the aroma, it reminds me of raspberry creme. mild intricate flavor that is a mix of chocolate, berries, vanilla, and warming with a touch of tounge slapping spice. finish is toffee, vanilla coke and chocolate cake, and with some spices, nice.

No head. Dark murky mahogany. Thick malty aroma. Hearty, alcohol-laden malt taste. Foamy mouthfeel. Roasted, almost smokey aftertaste. Slightly oxidized.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
2005 bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, fully diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately hoppy (resin), moderately malty (toasted bread), with notes of alcohol and sherry. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Disappointing...dull/boring aroma, not very rich, alcohol sticks out. No fun.

2005 release. Dark reddish brown. Sweet malt aroma. The flavor of this beer is HUGE. Definite alcohol burn with some pretty descent hops and a full malt sweetness. Definitly sipped this one slowly.

2003 vintage. I have finally conquered the Lex Luther of my celler. The beer that just would not go away, is finally gone. A nice, mellow bw, with a nice malt bill and mellow hoppiness. Nice sweetness with a slight acidic tang as well. Roasted flavors.
