3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DocLock (5977) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 17, 2009
Had this on draft at both Green Leafe’s, and now rating a fresh sample and normalizing the ratings, as such. Pours hazy orangy coppery with 1-finger fluffy off-white, well-retained head. Nose is rock sugary malt, spicy and funky yeast, hops. Tastes spicy, yeasty, hoppy, with a solid malt bill and a fairly smooth finish. Thisone straddles the line between a Belgian pale and a lower level tripel, woth hefty rock sugary malt throughout. You won’t like this is you don;t like Belgian beers, but if you do, then I trust you’ll appreciate the flavor and aroma this one provides.

Sparkling clear amber with a foamy off-white head. The aroma is a strong nose of belgian yeast and some malts. The flavor is much hoppier than expected based on the aroma. Other flavors are melon fruitiness, and sweet malt. Body is medium. The finish is a bit much, bitter and yeasty. An odd bird for sure but interesting.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - JUL 7, 2004
Light peachy-orange, a bit hazy. Head firm and sticky. Nose smells malty, some Belgian candy sugars, a bit dusty and musty. Sweet and malty, dry and hoppy at the end. Lightly fruity, bit of peach and melon. Palate very crisp and fizzy. Decent stuff.

The name fits well, it tastes like a good hoppy pale ale with some belgian flavor. Has a good hoppy pale ale character with sweet belgian like flavors. Had a lively mouth feel. Legend never fails me.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2004 Pours a nice copper hue with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and candyish with some bubblegum hints. Taste is yeasty with some malt and hops. Definitely tastes like a English Pale Ale blended with a Belgian Ale. Mouthfeel is a bit carbonated and astringent. The finish is very dry and bitter. Not too bad.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Kinz (2693) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JUN 29, 2004
I didn’t post a description here as I don’t know how "official" what the brewer told me is. He described it as a hoppy English pale ale brewed on a favorite Belgian yeast strain. In any case, copper color, very fizzy with head that died completely. Sweet candy aroma with a bit of peach note. Belgian yeast flavor over a sweet malt backbone, some dry bitterness on the finish. Interesting. An experiment to be sure, but worth more exploration.
