COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The is a pretty beer almost an amber/brown color. A well balanced beer that is great for the summer months. Unlike the porter, this is the beer that put them on the map.

bubbleflubber (1854) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - AUG 5, 2006
On draught at the Tap House in Norfolk, Va. Pours a deep mahogany with an off-white creamy head, 1/8th-inch retention and nice lacing. The bouquet consists of sweet ’n sour nutty aromas. Lots of sweet malt upfront, with a hint of nuts, and a subdued caramel finish. The palate is indistinct and a bit muddy. Although a little on the sweet side for a traditional brown ale, overall the brew isn’t bad.

shadey (1916) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 26, 2006
Dark amber/brown color with a huge bubbly head. Lots of bubbles trail up the glass from the depths. The aroma is very mild, just a touch of sweetness. Flavor is also very mild with just a touch of nuttiness. A very weak brown ale despite the respectable alcohol level.

Dark, perfectly clear copper. Good off-white head. Malty, very low hoppiness. Slightly astringent. Caramel and a bit of molasses.

Mahogany hued with a medium, tan head and a fair amount of lacing. Aroma of molassas and caramel malts. The taste up front is sweet malts with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Medium-bodied, well carbonated, with a long lasting finish.

hopscotch (9559) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 25, 2006
Draft... ODBF2006... Clear, amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Malty nose with some nice, light chocolate notes. The flavor is chocolatey as well. A tad on the sweet side of balance. Medium-bodied and fizzy. Finishes chocolatey and mildly bitter. Did I get around to saying anything about this brew being chocolatey at all?

Bottle. Pours murky dark, reddish brown with thick, lasting, off-white head. Aroma. Sweet baked bean-like aroma of brown sugar. Brown-sugary sweetness, with molasses and flavors and gooeyness and a slight burnt-caramel aftertaste. Very little hops, resulting in a lingering sticky sugariness. Malty flavors are tasty, but lacks any semblance of hops for balance.

VAYankee (333) - Virginia, USA - MAY 28, 2006
Clear brown body with an offwhite head. Aroma - malt, a little nutty, caramel. Caramel, roasted malt flavor, very faint nuttiness. Dry roasted aftertaste. Overall smooth and pleasing.

This is a real snoozer of a beer. Good for session time at the brewpub perhaps but really tends to fall flat in the bottle. The malt is a bit stale and muted with not nearly enough weight to carry the beer. Hops are variable here... sometimes nicely balanced, sometimes overkill. It’s generally a C student.

muzzlehatch (4424) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - APR 29, 2006
Largish draught sample at the brewpub. Clear maple with a dollop of receding head....roasted and lightly sugared pecans and almonds in the nose, caramel brown sugar getting stronger with warms, just a bit of dry herbal sharpness....smooth, lightly toasted malts on the tongue, some hints of molasses but mostly quite dry....rather creamy, clean, light and easy drinking mouthfeel....no flaws here, reasonably well done, but fairly dull.

Draught at Brewery: Smells of toffee, and malts. Sweet scent. Dark Amber/Brown color. Small white head. Decent lacing. Malty and sweet flavor. Tastes of chocolate, toffee, and molasses. Medium bodied. Lively carbonation. Decent brown ale, but does not stand out.
