3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
RIch brown body, nice frothy cover. Splendid aromas of nuts and chocolate waft loungingly from the glass. A touch thin on the body with easygoing chocolate malt and sprinkles of nut. .Quite smooth and brewed for a sessionable mindset. A solid brown ale and better than anticipated.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Having had the St. George IPA on the cask, it was time to try the Legend offering. Per the (massive) beer menu, it's "dark golden in color and dry hopped to perfection."
It arrived in a 20oz. English Imperial Pint glass with an amazingly thick and creamy white head that really reminded me of a nitr-tap brew. Distinct and impressive rings of lace on the glass as this one was drained. Color was indeed dark golden. Aromas were very different from what I'd expected. I was thinking I'd be able to pick up something resembling a hoppy note but all I got was a very pronounced "applesauce" aroma. I'd be curious to see what hops they used in dry-hopping this. Flavor, too, was not very influenced by the hops, IMHO. Pretty mild, and toned down by the conditioning in the cask. Quite malty-caramel sweet up front, tempered nicely by the hops. Finishes with a sweet, tangy aftertaste. Mouthfeel is nice...creamy smoothness coates the palate. I really like cask-conditioned beers and this one was easy to drink. One that I would certainly order again.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
All-together a very good example of a brown ale. A finger of off-white foam gave nice herbal hop aromas, with a malty under-current. Itís a good tasting beer with good flavors of malt and caramel and just a hint of yeastiness. For the most part, this is an excellent beer. I would rate it higher but it has not been at its best every time; a few of the times Iíve had it recently, the flavors were muted and some off-flavors had creeped in (not butterscotch or sour notes, so I donít think it was the taps for once). Regardless, even when itís "bad" itís good, and when itís good itís very good. If you like old school brown ales, this is an excellent beer.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed 12/16/2012. 12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a dark ruby red color with a nice opacity in spite of its shade. I think the head is quite beautiful, a one finger light khaki shade that retains itself in a consistent manner. Lacing is good, as well.
S: Surprisingly peppery - the black pepper component is pretty strong here. Beneath that lies some pleasant nuttiness (Iíd say something along the lines of pecan and almond) and even a touch of lemongrass. A bit strange in its construction, but not offputting.
T: The nut flavor is what dominates, first and foremost. Afterwards, the nuttiness will roll into a slight tartness. The finish has a balanced bitterness, keeping the sweetness in check without becoming harsh. A vague cream flavor is on the aftertaste - creating the suggestion that this seems well layered, if not complex. Very, very good, and much better than what the aroma suggested.
M: Creamy smooth at first, before finishing clean and dry. Carbonation could be toned down ever so faintly. Otherwise, the general feel of the palate is quite pleasant, avoiding the excess chalkiness prevalent in some browns.
O: I admit, this one caught me off guard a bit. Aromatically, itís not much cop, but the flavor and texture helps compensate. Very good in general.

a brothy kind of scotch pudding with some sweetness and more character. a murky cola/tea color (not appealing) with a walnut and walnut husk flavor that seems demonstrative and appropriate. modest body at best with a wisp of carbonation near the end and a mild bitter wood finish.

From the bottle pours chocolate brown with little head. Flavors transition well with a lingering aftertaste that urges another sip. Very smooth palate with a strong finish. Enjoyable ale

Poured into a snifter.
4.0 A: Clear deep mahogany brown color. Two and a half fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is good and plenty of lacing is left.
3.5 S: Nutty with a dry toastiness. Grainy malts and quite clean. Not a whole lot of flavor, but what is there is quite nice.
3.0 T: Taste is like the nose. Nutty, toasty, and dry. Grainy. Again itís not very intense, but itís well made and tasty.
4.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Extraordinarily creamy for what the body is and super smooth.
3.5 D: Decent beer with a great mouthfeel, but could use more intensity in the taste.
