Had it in a bottle from Total Wine, Springfield. Overcarbonated. Astringent. Overroasted. Tasted like bad homebrew. Yuck.

22 oz bottle sent to me by my buddy in Richmond. Oh yeah. Nose is nutty and sweet with caramel and toffee notes. Some residual sugars as well. Pours brown, light brown/amber to be exact. Nice creamy head that dissipates to a thin film. Sweet initially, caramel and nutty notes. Some sugars linger. This reminds me of a Newcastle with more residual sugars and more of a fresh flavor. Drinks easily for the most part, as a slight hint of alcohol shows up in the finish sporadically.

Had this on tap at Dave and Buster’s. Pour was a dark amber with some light head which quickly dissipated. Aroma was fairly sweet in a fairly fruity sense, with some more standard malty sweetness as well. This was somewhat biting on the palate as well, with the harsh carbonation. This had a fair amount of bittering hops with some sweetness that certainly reminded me of light sweet fruits like pears. Body was light. Reminded me much more of an amber than a brown ale. Better than I remember it being a few years back.

12 oz bottle. Clear brown with a spongy head. Nose is brown sugar, cardboard and faint citrus. Crisp medium light with refreshing carb. Taste is caramel, raisin, peanut and burnt sugar. Nice clean brown ale without a bitter finish. Good with food.

Overall Impression:
A Richmond classic, man, I can’t believe I’ve never rated Legend Brown. I was just adding some beers I drank at Legend the other day, and I realized this one hadn’t been added yet somehow. Anyway, I should rate this off a new bottle, but I use to drink this one a lot back in my Richmond days, and it is a pretty nice, enjoyable drinking, local beer.

Draught at Brewery. thin light tan head, aroma of caramel, taste the caramel with a smooth, clean finish, my personal favorite from the brewery

Bottled. very alive and carbonated. Aroma is sweet malty along with flavor. Aroma is also nutty, lightly chocolaty, definitely syrupy caramel, and also lightly fruity. Flavor starts sweet and gets balanced by light earthier tones along with a very light (i would complain to light) of a roasted/toasted balance. Sweeter but balanced finish. Easy the whole way. Great with BBQ.
