2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MartinT (6150) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 14, 2008
My Bottom Line:
Diacetyl à gogo in the nose evaporates in the flavor profile, leaving room for the simple caramel malts and earthy hops to attempt balance. This basic Brown Ale may reach neophytes or those looking for a simple session ale, but it cannot compete with the style’s best examples, imho.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slim veil of foam sinks into the coppery brown.
-Leafy hop bitterness is decent, but not efficient.
-The body is slick and round, yet the residual sugars do not impart much flavor other than straightforward caramel.
-It remains rather sweet throughout, and therefore balanced is not reached.
On tap at The Green Leafe Café in Williamsburg, VA.

Bottle. Pours a chestnut-brown with creamy, long lasting head. Malty aroma. A hint of hops in the end, but mainly a caramel-ish taste. Smooth and not as full bodied as I would like for a brown ale.

Dark amber with good, foamy beige head / Light, root beer nose / Light, fizzy body with weak finish / LIght flavors of caramel and coffee / Light is the word.

Pours a reddish-brown color with off-white short lived head. Aroma is caramel with a bit of brown sugar. Caramel malt flavor. Some citrus hops come through at the end. A decent but not outstanding brown ale.

Had on tap at brewery a while ago and recently several times in bombers. Not bad brown ale, but it needs to be maltier or hoppier ... just didn’t ring my bell.

nice honey color with a large frothy but rapidly dissipating head. Pretty standard brown ale taste. Nothing to really dislike about this beer, but nothing to get real excited over either. An acceptable brown ale.

Bottle.
Pours a highly-sparkling cola-brown. Sour aroma, some caramel, a little bit of nuttiness. Flavor is sour too, some residual sugars combining with that to make it taste almost a little bit toward a Flemish sour. Nutty, chalky tones, again some caramel. It doesn’t come together at all; basically, this one was no good.

Brown with medium head. Smell of nuts and malt. Great flavor of nuts and malt on the end. Textured more than other brown beers.
