4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Having had the St. George IPA on the cask, it was time to try the Legend offering. Per the (massive) beer menu, it's "dark golden in color and dry hopped to perfection."
It arrived in a 20oz. English Imperial Pint glass with an amazingly thick and creamy white head that really reminded me of a nitr-tap brew. Distinct and impressive rings of lace on the glass as this one was drained. Color was indeed dark golden. Aromas were very different from what I'd expected. I was thinking I'd be able to pick up something resembling a hoppy note but all I got was a very pronounced "applesauce" aroma. I'd be curious to see what hops they used in dry-hopping this. Flavor, too, was not very influenced by the hops, IMHO. Pretty mild, and toned down by the conditioning in the cask. Quite malty-caramel sweet up front, tempered nicely by the hops. Finishes with a sweet, tangy aftertaste. Mouthfeel is nice...creamy smoothness coates the palate. I really like cask-conditioned beers and this one was easy to drink. One that I would certainly order again.

Pours clear brown with a quickly-dissipating off-white head. Looks nice enough, though the aromas and flavors are best described as light - light caramel and nutty aromas, similar light flavors with a touch of sweetness. Hints of hops on the finish. Very drinkable, balanced style.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle @ Beer Run / Charlottesville VA --- Clear dark brown color, smooth 1" beige head, streaks of lace. Taste is nutty malt that adds light carbonation and hops on the swallow. Very simple, not as sweet as one might expect. but not hoppy, either. Meh.

Good brown ale that converted my son who is not usually a fan. Tasty with nice aftertaste. Looks good and tastes good. Mellow beer that goes well with a meal. Recommend for cooler days and nights.

Draft sample at Cherry Blossom Beer & Wine fest, red-hued brown color with off-white head. Aroma notes of light roasted malt sweetness, some nuttiness and faint coffee. Taste adds caramel, molasses and bread. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, sticky with light roast finish. Nice brown ale.

This one is sweet and tasty but not really a brown to me. Caramel i think really overwhelms this one.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich deep brown coloured body with a nice tan head - dense haze of brown as well, about 80% opaque. Aroma of rich malt, molasses, sugars and even bit of light fruit - very nice for the style. Medium-bodied; Rich roasted malt flavours show through with hints of earth, but a lot of sugars, caramel, toffee and especially molasses - very nice with the sweet and complex flavours at the end. Aftertaste shows some subdued complexity of malts along with a touch of alcohol notes, but the real flavour is in the sugar - nice! Overall, a much better beer than I was expecting and rich in flavours and in texture - a good beer for the style for sure. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 16-July-2014 for US$3,59 sampled after a hockey game in Washington.

Nutty and sweet. Beautiful dark but clear brown. Very thin head. Solid brown ale. Thanks Erin for helping me cross off Virginia. Still need the Dakotas and Connecticut.
