3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 potbeercollege (1329) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 30, 2009
Bottled. very alive and carbonated. Aroma is sweet malty along with flavor. Aroma is also nutty, lightly chocolaty, definitely syrupy caramel, and also lightly fruity. Flavor starts sweet and gets balanced by light earthier tones along with a very light (i would complain to light) of a roasted/toasted balance. Sweeter but balanced finish. Easy the whole way. Great with BBQ.

Overall Impression:
A Richmond classic, man, I can’t believe I’ve never rated Legend Brown. I was just adding some beers I drank at Legend the other day, and I realized this one hadn’t been added yet somehow. Anyway, I should rate this off a new bottle, but I use to drink this one a lot back in my Richmond days, and it is a pretty nice, enjoyable drinking, local beer.

Draught at Brewery. thin light tan head, aroma of caramel, taste the caramel with a smooth, clean finish, my personal favorite from the brewery

Dark translucent pour with very small head that quickly dissipates. Prominent caramel malt flavor with some roasted notes as well. Minor floral hops. Also has hint of leather and wood. Starts mildly sweet with medium finish that is mildly bitter. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation and creamy on the palate. Well rounded brown ale and reminiscent in good times living in Williamsburg, VA.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 theacelatrain (262) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 19, 2006
Bottle. Pours murky dark, reddish brown with thick, lasting, off-white head. Aroma. Sweet baked bean-like aroma of brown sugar. Brown-sugary sweetness, with molasses and flavors and gooeyness and a slight burnt-caramel aftertaste. Very little hops, resulting in a lingering sticky sugariness. Malty flavors are tasty, but lacks any semblance of hops for balance.

Went down smooth and clean, with a malty, moderately full and dry finish. Just the thing after my walk around Richmond. Nothing to swoon over, but a well made ale.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Brigadier (1940) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - JUL 26, 2010
22 oz bottle
On a warm summer’s night this was a great option to help pass the time. Well balanced and affordable Legend deserves credit for sticking to a price point that many brewers have jumped right past. If I could get their stuff locally I suspect that I would have tried many more of their offerings than I have to date
Aroma / Appearance - Foamy head the color of choppy wave caps accented a dark fluid base. Pretty deep for the style it smells like someone drizzled chocolate glazing over air popped kernels then ate them while roasting chestnuts and almonds. Mellow easy going hops cap off a well rounded blend.
Flavor / Palate - Hoppy with a strong oaken character, this tastes like someone adds wood shavings to a base of chestnuts and threw it in a blender. The mouthfeel is much more thick than I expected though not cloying. Overall this is an easy going beer that appeals to those in a sessionable mood. If I’d had another bottle I might have been able to finish that as well.
