This beer was enjoyed at a bar in Richmond. The head was stable and thick. It dissapated over time. The chocolate was present throughout the drink. It was not subtle. There was some bitter aftertaste. This porter got better over time. This drink did not have the creamy head and the fullness of Young's Double Chocolate.

Draft at the source. Very dark brown color, no head to speak of. Aroma of dark milk chocolate. Taste is Hershey syrup which I think obscures the beer characteristics a bit.

This beer is a solid porter. However it lacks in the chocolate flavor. Still solid but not there best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz Bomber from DoctorB2B in a trade, Thanks!. Poured into an English Pint. Pours black with about a finger of dark tan head. Aroma is strongly chocolate with a little coffee and some roasty malt. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Like biting into a chocolate bar sprinkled with coffee dust. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, I’m really digging this beer. I would love to age one and see how it changes.

Tap. Dark with thin tan head. Nice light around of coffee and dark chocolate. Nice rich flavor.

From the tap poured a dark brown color with a small amount of head. Sweet malty flavor with a lingering chocolate finish.

Poured into a snifter. I think this is from early 2010, but I’m not sure. 3.0 A: Looks like this has become severly overcarbonated. Not a gusher, but I only got about a half inch of liquid on the first pour with a big frothy head filling the rest. Several pours and more than several minutes later, I finally got a full glass. Black color. Three fingers of frothy light brown head with decent retention, but not much lacing. 3.0 S: Aroma is weaker than I prefer. Dry and "dusty" overall, but there is some caramel in there. The cacoa is there, but doesn’t contribute a whole lot though it gains some strength as the beer warms. A light cidery component as well. 3.5 T: The taste is better than the nose. The cocoa comes through much stronger in the nose and it works well with the base beer. The underlying porter is musky, dusty, but not as dry as the nose. Caramel sweetness brings about some good balance with the roasty and char flavors. Again, there is a light cidery component. 3.0 M: I would have given this a 3.5 if it wasn’t so overlycarbonated. I did swirl it down to an acceptable level, but that isn’t something I should be required to do. Lighter medium body. Decently creamy for how light the body is. Would be smoother with appropriate carbonation. 3.0 D: This wasn’t too bad, but it’s not something I would buy. The taste was alright, but the cider component hints that the brewery isn’t very consistent. Serving: 22 oz. bottle.
Aroma: The nose is dusty with notes of mineral, cocoa nibs, and a bit of rawness I can’t quite place.
Appearance: As soon as this bottle was cracked it started spewing forth from the bottle. Pouring into a glass lead to 7/8ths of foam and 1/8th of beer. It finally settles down a little bit leaving a dark brown liquid and a solid inch of light tan foam that was self sustaining for the entire session.
Taste: This was a tough one because the carbonation was so overactive, it skewed everything. There is definite cocoa there along with roasted notes and that mineral note I detected in the nose.
Palate: Far lighter in body than it should be, but I am not sure if this is due in part to the carbonation. Definitely way over carbonated. The finish is short and rather disappointing.
Overall: This brew needs more flavor, more body, and way less carbonation. Not their best brew by far. Skip this one.

Opaque dark brown body with a thick tan head. Sweet milk chocolate aroma that almost resembles opening the wrapper on a Hershey’s Bar. The flavor is not as sweet as the aroma indicated. Nice Cocoa flavor just the same.

Black with a foamy tan head. Tart fruit and berry aroma. Taste is strangely tart as well but also has a dark chocolate bitterness. Slightly odd.

Aroma: Aroma of coffee, and dark chocolate
Appearance: Dark brown/black color, tan head
Flavor: Roasted coffee up-front, semi-sweet chocolate - bitter finish
Palate: Nice mouthfeel with a good, long finish
Overall Impression: I really liked this beer. It is a chocolate porter for sure, but not in the traditional (sweet chocolate) sense. More of a bittersweet/semi-sweet/dark chocolate bitter flavor instead, but it works really well in my opinion. The ratings seem a bit low here, this beer was a rousing success at my table. A very nice brew.
