Frothy white head, citrus aroma, hazy golden olive colour. Sour flavour, olive-banana. Not quite what I had hoped.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Numenor (871) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAY 17, 2006
<!-- i -->Capital Ale House Downtown<!-- /i --> -- Nice golden body, somewhat cloudy as typical of this style, light white head. Nice citrus aroma with some light yeast accents. Good body, light wheat accents and some citurs flavoring. Plain ending, nothing too noticable. Decient hefe... a good benchmark for this style.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2006 At Virginia Beer Festival. Can’t say this was my favorite, it as alright, orange, and heavy on the clove, slight taste of banana.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 ClarkVV (3579) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 13, 2005
2005 bomber many thanks to the_beer_God. Shared with Muzzlehatch on 11/4/05. Yellow-orange with a pale-gold/copper tinge to it. Vigorous amounts of bubbles rise to create a white head this is large initially, but almost immediately recedes to a ring, just as quickly as it can fizzle away. Tons of clove in the aroma, some dry nutmeg-like notes and a bit of bread on end. A touch of fruits, but a significant lack of malt sweetness/complexity and little banana/bubble gum. Flavor begins with a touch of dry, yellow fruits, lots of spicy cloves and light canned peach syrup. Light bread dough and wheat dryness but a nice wheat creaminess to the texture. The clove eventually overtakes all other flavors and the bottle can not be finished. Somewhat watery on end, after warming, with light carbonation.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 muzzlehatch (4424) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - NOV 7, 2005
22 oz bottle shared with ClarkVV. Opaque orange, thick head dies very quickly...aroma is clove, clove clove clove clove clove, and clover, and did I mention clove? my God it’s intense, and I love clove, but is that all there is to this...flavor is slightly more interesting, a touch of fruity quality and some late sourdough, but still mostly just the one pungent spice...no, no more thanks.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 matta (1140) - Tampa, Florida, USA - OCT 11, 2005
Thanks to Mike, The_Beer_God; for sending me this rarity!
Pours astunning golden orange body and a fluffy white head. The aroma is filled with clove and hints of coriander, rotting banana and a strange powdery rubber likeness.. like a new rubber bicycle inner-tube. The flavor is kind of sour, musty and tart… a strange blending of off yeast flavors… the spicy tartness is muddled and detracting. I don’t know what is going on with this beer but it’s not so much my bag…. I probably will not finish this one and that is a rarity! - With an odd astringency in the finish???
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 jmuhops (666) - Winchester, Virginia, USA - SEP 9, 2005
UPDATED: SEP 14, 2005 Pours amberish-yellow with a too-small head (albeit not as small as the Smuttynose’s). Very clovey and peppery aroma. Also something that smells like nutmeg mixed with donkey pee. But that’s faint. Good bready and citrusy start, but the finish is just a little rubbery and medicinal. Not terrible.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 VA Homebrewer (525) - Portsmouth, Virginia, USA - AUG 8, 2005
Hazy orange color with a fluffy off-white head. Typical wheaty aroma with weheat, yeast, cloves, black pepper and herbal hops. Nice flavor profile with yeast, a light malt sweetness, bubblegum and some banana. Finish is dry and somewhat long. Body is fuller than most hefeweizens, but is not so heavy that it deviates from what hefeweizens do so well - quench your thirst on a hot summer day. Very enjoyable.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 crzybob77 (530) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUN 19, 2005
Cloudy yellow with fluffy white head. Flavor is sweet, banana, yeasty, spicey, fruity, citruisy, and wheaty. Has everything a good hefeweizen needs and all the flavors tie in nicely. Not pefect, but legend did a very respectable job.
