Thaichile (590), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA Aug 9, 2007 Bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy golden yellow colour with a fairly healthy, but quickly disapating head. Nose leads with citrus, yeast, and a sprinkle of banana. Flavors continue with that sour/citric profile with a far away background of sweet bananas. Mouthfeel was pleasently creamy which I like in a hefeweizen. Tart finish with a ever so small hoppiness. I didn’t mind this one at all and if I ever was in their brewing area, I would pick another one up.
mwelsh13 (136), Maryland, USA Aug 13, 2008 22 oz bottle poured cloudy light straw color. Banana in the aroma. Black pepper in the flavor. Some clove too. Nice lunch beer. joshwilfong (516), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2008 light yellow and minimal head for a weizen. thin mouthfeel. flavor has very little malt character and really is lead by its yeast aspect, which is nice, but can’t make up for a weak tasting weizen. one of the poorer legend beer i have had. IMtheOptimator (1113), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jul 5, 2008 Had on tap at The Trellis, which I am nominating for Williamsburg’s most overrated restaurant. While I am aware that this is not a restaurant rating site, I just had to say it out of frustration from paying $160 for a completely unsatisfactory meal. Poured an effervescent gold with a fizzy white head. Aroma of lemon and some butter toffee. Flavor is light, with some lemony citrus notes and some biscuit dough with a touch of grassy hops, ending with a bit of spiciness. Refreshing if underwhelming, though not nearly as much as my meal.
By the way, if you’re ever in the Williamsburg, VA area, I highly recommend visiting The Fat Canary and completely ignoring The Trellis. The two used to be co-owned by the same man, who later abandoned the Trellis. I’m not sure why, but I’m willing to bet he bothered to taste the flavorless food that sucker tourists were paying $30 a plate for. Plus, The Fact Canary had three different Legend beers on tap, which was nice. MaltDawg (289), Richmond, Virginia, USA May 16, 2008 Pint at the brewery. Slightly cloudy light straw color well carbonated. Fairly clean wheat flavor with clove spice phenolics. Slight cardboard oxidized notes. Overall nice summer sipper. dkachur (756), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 14, 2008 Bottle from WFM Charlottesville. Pours a hazy straw-lemon color with a medium sized frothy head. Good retention and moderate lacing. Aroma was skunk at first but mellowed into yeast and clove. Taste is watery, bland and uninteresting. A little sourness and a typical yeast flavor. Bleh.
