3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 alexanderj (2829) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - APR 14, 2007
Draft. Poured a darkish amber with a medium whitish head. Aroma of hops and caramel. Flavor was a little harsh and metallic for me. Wasnt particularly good for me; had a lot of hops, but just didnt click for me.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 millysdaddy (67) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAR 30, 2007
22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, dark amber with a large off-white head. Very caramely aroma with citrus and foral hop notes as well. The flavor starts off very hoppy followed by caramel, vanilla and raisin with a dry and bitter finish. Interesting IPA - kind of feels closer to a double IPA.
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 jgb9348 (3369) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAR 27, 2007
Deep amber coloured body with a short tan head and trillions of bubbles. Aroma of pure hops, malt, caramel and raisins. Light-bodied; Fresh hops up front with no backbone at all. More of straight citrus and herbal characteristics noticeable in the taste. Aftertaste very bitter and very light - no harsh characteristics at all. A nice IPA - clean and simple beer. Pure to the style as well. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia on 10-March-2007.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jefcon (1104) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - MAR 19, 2007
Deep brown, but clear and lighter around the edges. Grassy and hopcit aromas, with a little lavender. Rough carbonation, medium weight, bitter finish which lasts. Flavors of green hops, floral, some acidity, popcorn. Interesting brew, but a bit too aggressive carbonation and bittering for me.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 mephisto (1252) - TAIWAN - MAR 13, 2007
by far the best virginian beer i’ve had. it has copper hue with beige head, the aroma is of grapefruit that is nicely dry hopped. well balanced body, the flavor is hoppy but not overwhelming; it is highly drinkable.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Trooper11 (468) - Suffolk, Virginia, USA - MAR 13, 2007
13th Anniversary bomber. This deep amber, slightly hazy brew with a thick foamy head and heavy lacing has an seriously citrusy hops aroma with light pine notes and is incredibly inviting. Taste is extreme bitter yet smooth with a gentle warmth. Bit of a citrusy acid burn at first drink but subsides to sweet hops pleasure. Excellent IPA. Probably would have loved it even more had I not had the pleasure of having it’s big brother IIPA first. That is still my first love but for $4.75 for the bomber you can’t go wrong with this baby.

22 oz bottle. 13th Anniversary. Pours copper color with white head. Aroma floral and piney hops. Taste of grapefruit and malt with a hoppy bitter after taste.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Braudog (4473) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - MAR 7, 2007
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2007 In the past week or so I discovered this on tap at both Green Leafe and Taphouse-Ghent and brought home a bomber from Bon Vivant. It’s a deep shiny red beer with a textbook rocky head ... the classic visual appeal for this genre. The aroma assaults your senses with a gigantic hop flourish, piney and citrusy. Once across the tongue, this lives up to the promise of a big, oily, resinous hop-bomb, earthy and woodsy. It has a nice smooth, silky mouthfeel. This is a great big IPA and the best I believe I’ve found from among our Virginia brewers. Good job! (#2738, 3/7/2007)
