3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 alexanderj (2850) - Gilbert, USA - SEP 21, 2007
Bottle; poured a murky brown with an off white/beige head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, toffee, and molasses. Taste initially is chocolate, caramel and nuts. Some vegetable taste to it. Hop finish became more pronounced with time. Alcohol well hidden. Palate was, as they said, chewy. Another good beer from Legend.

dark reddish brown with decent off white head. Moderate carbonation. Very complex with flavors of chocolate and crystal malt predominating with some yeasty esters and done a very dry finish which aides in displaying the complexities of this beer. Very nice

Deep caramel/copper coloured body with a nearly perfect tan head that tops the beer - ruby when held to a light, this beer looks great! Aroma of fresh hops, clean toasted malt, raisins, nuts and a bit of grass. Medium-bodied; Strong hops up front with a citrus and grassy taste, combined with malt near the end of the taste and a punch of nuts to finish it out. Aftertaste a bit more refined - some alcohol, a lot of nuts and pit fruits and a bit of bitter hops - very nice! Overall, a good beer, more of an Imperial IPA than an Imperial Brown, but very nice indeed! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased yesterday, 31-May-2008 at Kybecca in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ahalloin (54) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - APR 27, 2008
From a 22 oz bottle, this beer pours a surprising brownish-black color with absolutely no transparency. I’ve seen stouts less black than this, granted they probably weren’t good stouts. The head is also reminiscent of a stout witha thick creamy head that fades to nice lacing. The aroma is strongly brown sugar, caramel, black licorice, and dried fruit with a malty base. The flavor doesn’t quite match the smell as the IBUs and alcohol take over the flavor. Still, there is a lingering sense of those aromas, but they are completely masked by the bitterness and alcohol. It could use a bit more body to hold up the IBUs as well.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Drake (5231) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - APR 17, 2008
Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours ruby red with large tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and pear. Hops are a little too assertive. Nice toffee flavor. Nice effervescence. But, off balance and there is an "off" flavor. The only way I can describe it is the juice from that fruit cocktail from my elementary school lunches.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Hazmatt (363) - Virginia, USA - NOV 19, 2007
Bottle. Dark brown color, smallish head, dissipates down to a thin foam ring that lingers. Strong malt aroma with hints of coffee and to a lesser degree, chocolate. Also has an aroma reminiscnent of a barleywine. Flavor is also similar to a light but hoppy barleywine. Good hop flavor, citrus and pine. Roasty dark malts, slight fruitiness emerges as it warms slightly; nutty, touch of smoke. Full bodied. While Legend’s brown ale is very tasty, it’s on the lighter side as browns go, this is more heavy, robust and an entirely different beer-very good.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Immy (1948) - Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA - OCT 27, 2007
Bomber, 2007 edition. Clear, dark copper with a big beige head. Sweet pink grapefruit and caramel nose. Bold flavors of chocolate and coffee, mild nuttiness and a distinct grapefruit tone. The finish is all grapefruit. They really hopped the hell out of this brown, for sure. It works, and I like it quite a bit!
