obguthr (707), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Apr 23, 2008 Very complex intense aroma of toffee, chocolate syrup, woody, leafy, bark. Trace of smoke and fig and even a bit musty smell to it. Black opaque pour, viscous, with a thick brown head, and good lacing. Tastes of espresso, bitter bark, currants, and high quality hops. Espresso and walnut finish. Frothy mouthfeel, fantastic complexity and balance. No trace of alcohol. Pairs well with strong meats and cheeses. Hops really shine through when warm. Amazing brew!
smith4498 (342), Miami, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle courtesy of growler. Pours black with brown head. Aroma of burnt malts. Flavors of sweet burnt malts, chocolate and coffee. Some piney hops are also noticeable. Full body with minimal carbonation. The addition of oats really gave this beer a nice silky mouthfeel. A decent, easy drinking imperial stout. Ty5592 (1009), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle from Dkachur, thanks! Pours Black with small tan head. Aroma was of straight butter with some deep roasted malt notes. The taste was the same with bright hops mingling in the background. Deep bitter roasted finish. railcat1 (488), Hammond, Indiana, USA Jun 11, 2008 This was a good but not overwhelming IPS with a lot of chocolate malts and generous amonts of roasted barley with a nice but not to big sweet finish and some hints of hops and vanilla not bad and very drinkable.CHEERS! badbeer (409), Iowa, USA May 27, 2008 Black with a tan head. Buttered popcorn, roast, and lactose sweetness as well. Buttered popcorn shows up in the taste as well; roasty finish, lactose. There’s a good beer in here, but the diacetyl is really distracting and takes a lot away from this beer. High carbonation and less than medium body. I’d like to try next years batch to see if there was just a problem with this bottling/bottle. sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 24, 2008 Bottle shared by puddintane: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma, dark fruits, coffee, caramel, and some faint dark chocolate. Flavor, coffee, roasted notes, dark fruit, chocolate milk. Roasted bitterness on the finish.
