I’ve been trying to track down this beer for around 3 years now. I’ve always seemed to have an uncanny knack of missing its release. So I’m in a freaking Kroger, not a local beer store, not a local beer bar, not the brewpub itself, but the freaking Kroger of all places and I find a row of fresh new bottles on the shelf. Go figure. Amber orange appearance, quite clear, very nice head with great lacing. Aroma is a bit biscuity with some earthen hops. Understated but pleasant. Biscuit malts are the initial flavor, followed by earthy hops with a slight bit of pine, and a long lasting bitterness. Balanced, quaffable, a well done APA. Glad to have finally tracked this thing down.

bottle-thanks to whaleman for sharing this one at the tasting at bills this weekend. pours bright orange with a sudsy 1/2 inch white head. I think this beer looks pretty nice. bright orange and tangerine hop flavors with not much of a malt base here. pretty citric. I must agree with whaleman, how the flavors of the hops and carbonation meld tends to leand towards oxidization. light grainyness and metallic notes in the finish. vigerous carbonation again sugests oxidization. very dry finish from all the citric hop notes. no diacytl at least, but definatly still not a great pale.

On cask: Cloudy dark amber with a good creamy head. Orange rind aroma. Good balance of maltiness and citrus hops. Perfect session beer. AR: 4 AP: 4 FL: 4 PA: 3 OV: 4 On tap: Clear copper amber. Good head. Hops are milder, less fresh tasting. Cask version is definitely the superior beer by a long shot. Rating is the average of the two. AR: 3 AP: 4 FL: 3 PA: 3 OV: 3.5

Thanks to Numenor for this. Tall, three dimensional head of off-white that rides over a deep, clear amber body. Light malt and hop aroma. The flavor balacne is malty with some underlying bitterness. Some dryness in the finish. Smooth, easy drinking.

Bomber courtesy of kinz. Pale aroma of malts but sniffer is little off with all the citrus trees out here blooming at this time. Orange body with white creamy head and good amount of lacing on glass. Flavor had a malted caramel backbone but enough hop mix to balance it out. Good refreshing beer on the palate.

Total Wine, Fairfax: Pours a copper colour with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is not that powerful: light hoppage, with a hefty malt backbone. Upon tasting it, the malts take first whistle and provide most of this beers oomph. This is not to say that the beer is unbalanced towards malts, but rather that the beer does not have a hearty hoppy kick. All in all, this is an OK, but not a very good APA.

Elwood (2493) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - OCT 26, 2009
Serving: Draft. Appearance: Amber color with a creamy, off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma: Earthy hop nose with light malt notes. Flavor: Earthy hops, caramel, and a bit of citrus. Decent balance between hops and malt with the hops winning out. Palate: Medium, carbonation with a medium mouthfeel Overall: Not a bad APA. Worth a shot if you are at the brewery.
