COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Legend Stout’s character comes from a healthy addition of chocolate and roasted specialty malts. The roasting of malt brings out similar flavors achieved by roasting coffee beans. An addition of unmalted flaked barley gives the stout its rich, creamy body. Hops are very subtle for balance only and are not noticeable in this brew. It is fermented on our own English ale yeast blend, which we have used in recent pale ales and ESBs and most recently in our Tenth Anniversary Ale. It lends a subtle fruity note to balance the bitterness and roastiness of the dark malts. When combined together this blend makes for a world-class session beer. You don’t have to be a working-class Irishman to enjoy this top-notch Stout.

Creamy, long-lasting, tan-colored head over a black body. Some bitterness, but a mellow sweetness as well. A little harsh.

Bottle shared by ucusty. Nose is roasty, char, coffee. FLavor has some pretty nice roast with a finish of cream and cappachuino. Good, solid, stout without any major flaws.

Thanks to ucusty for sharing this one at the CC gathering! Another solid brew from this modest brewery. Deep dark chocolate pour, with a moderate head, decent retention. While the aroma is dominated by roasted malts, the flavor has some tart fruit in it that doesn’t always complement the primary characteristic (could be signs of infection too). Understated and enjoyable, just not too memorable.

Dark brown pour pour tan head and spotty lace. Roasted malts, light chocolate and buttery aroma. Thin bodied. Chocolate, hazelnut, and light roast. Solid regular stout

Bottle shared by ucusty. Thanks, Dave. Dark brown pour. Creamy tan head. Nose is roasty, meaty even. Some chocolate and coffee. Something kind of stale about it... cardboard notes suggest oxidation. Still, not too bad.

Thanks ucusty for sharing. Pours a dark brown that allows light. Head is two fingers thick creamy and tan. The nose is chocolaty, some coffee, sweet, papery. Flavor is thin, slick, papery, peanut shells, old hops. Thin ashy palate.

Pitch black, 100% opaque with a nice sized light brown head. Great aroma of chocolate, dough, bread - kind of like chocolate chip cookie dough. Very nice with a lactic twang - a great smelling beer for sure! Medium-bodied; Nice bready & chocolatey taste with some malt and roastyness very noticeable. Aftertaste bitter, but a lot of sweetness bodes well on the palate. Overall, a good stout - I can’t believe this is a Legend! Especially after the last beer (Legend Doppelbock), its tough to compare the two. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 09-June-2005 at Jon(R888710)’s.

Bomber, split with NachlamSie. Pours quite black with a long-lasting tan head. The aroma is slight smoke, chocolate, a little bit of soy sauce, some dark fruits, and a little coffee. The flavor is chocolate, ash, a little smoke, and some fruit peels. Finish is surprisingly dry considering the fullness of the body. Not bad.

Bomber coutresy of Tronraner. Pours fairly dark, near black with some reds in the light. Nice head on this one which is accompanied by solid lacing. The aroma is on the fruitier side of stouts. Plums, meat, caramel, rum, lightly roasted coffee. Taking a sip, I discovered my biggest peeve with this beer: its thin mouthfeel. It’s not very spritzy nor is it heavy, so it feels a lot like water which doesn’t lend itself much to the overall flavor profile. That aside, it tastes pretty decent. Nothing really jumps out at me, but I get more bashful flirtations with fruit, clear rum, and a bit of buttered bread. The finish is dryish with tame spices. Cumin comes to mind, maybe something else meaty. I thought it was all right and could’ve been much better with a denser palate.

22oz. Pours black with a tan head. Not getting much out of the nose, mostly the slightest hint of roasteds. Body is heavy and lends itself to coffee, but more burnt coffee than anything else. Also, dirt. Finish is long but not necessarily enjoyable. No complexity. I am increasingly underwhelmed with Legend.

22 oz from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours chocolate brown with a small, persistent toffee colored head. Earthy mocha aroma. Taste is mocha up front with a minimal yet bad hop character in the aftertaste. Nice buttery quality to the palate. Goes down easy, but forgettable.
