A variant on a porter, an old English beerstyle, that was very popular in London in the 18th and 19th century.

Black, medium bodied and pretty big light brown head. Rich but not overdone aroma of raisin, toast, sweet apples, nuts and some butter. Nice! Smooth feel and a bitterdry yet light sweet body. Aftetaste reveals a bit of alcohol that may be seen as disadvantage but it gives character too. Kind of rough overall but plenty interesting too. (50cl bottle from first bottled batch)

Pours an almost black molasses colour with a lightly coffee coloured head that stays stable for some time, making a picture-perfect glass of porter which even strong light can not penetrate. It smells like freshly broken plums with the promise of something dark and bitter hiding behind it. The taste is overwhelmingly strong for a beer of slightly more than 6%. Roasted bitter almond, aspects of coffee and an undertone that makes me think of freshly tilled dark soil. The taste does not linger particularly long but a nice dark chocolate hint does remain. It’s the first beer I had of this brewer and it really makes we want to taste the others too.

Jet black with dark cream head. Aroma has light caramel and roasted malts. Feels quite thick and silky. Strong roasted bitter flavour with some light smoke and bitter cocoa.

Bottle from jmgreenuk - thanks! Very nice Porter - sweet and rich. Sticky, slightly boozy. Light mouthfeel and nice malt notes. Good stuff.

Very much black, like stouts and porters are. The smell gives it out this is more of a porter than stout, which has bit licorice. Taste is bitter, malty and alcoholic. Aroma has licorice and plenty of malts. A very good type beer, thou not the most awesome I’ve ever had.

Bottle @ home. ALmost black colored. Beige head. Aroma’s of hard roasted malts, some chocolate sweetness, and even a bit salty. Flavor is light sweet, roasted, bitter. Medium bodied. Finishes roasted and bitter. Pretty good.

Poured dark black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roast malt. Body is a bit weak, and the flavour isn’t quite as well developed as the aroma would suggest. Dry, bitter aftertaste.
