Leinenkugelís is pleased to bring back Leinenkugelís Big Butt Doppelbock into its limited-release portfolio. The name "Big Butt" comes from the image of two goats butting heads that you see on the label. Bock means billy goat in German and Leinenkugelís Big Butt Doppelbockís name and label pokes fun at the goatís springtime mating ritual. The result is a malty, rich, full-bodied bock beer brewed with two-and six-row pale and specialty malts and two specialty hops. Like all Leinieís beers, Big Butt Doppelbock is handcrafted one batch at a time in our historic Chippewa Falls brewery.

This is a dark beer that is super heavy and malty, and drinks like a loaf of bread.

From a wegs pick 6. Been looking for this for a while. Nice name, extra point for that. Appearance is nice. Clear, dark, reddish, 1 finger tan head, recedes to some minor retention. Scattered lacing. Malt driven nose and palate. Minor dark fruit nose, Some smoke and chocolate seem out of place. Crisp clean taste, a bit of toasted malt, a tiny touch of fruit, but yes more body than a standard bock. Not bad, not up to German standards but I really appreciate the attempt and would buy it again.

Bottle - big foamy head, very dark brown color, very nutty and toasty malt aroma and flavor, mild hops, not bad overall

Bottle. Poured a mahogany color with a decent sized frothy head, The aroma consisted of malt, nuts, and alcohol. Tasted like nuts, caramel and thin malt. The finish was a little bit bitter. This beer was nothing exciting, Seemed like a standard macro Bock.

Pours a deep brown with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty, dark fruit and some caramel notes. Flavor starts pretty sweet, the dark fruits come in and a hint of chocolate. Light medium body and plenty of carbonation. Not the best doppelbock, but not the worst either. Drinkable.

Leinenkugelís Big Butt Doppelbock has a thick, beige head, a brown, fairly clear, appearance, and some lacing splotches left on the glass. The aroma is faint, but one can, with deep inhalations, pick up some slight bready sweetness. Taste is of sweet brown bread, a touch of syrup, and very low, almost unnoticed, hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Leinenkugelís Big Butt Doppelbock finishes crisp, clean, and refreshing. RJT

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours dark copper brown with a beige/tan head. Aroma is malty. But not overly sweet. Med minus body. Flavor is malty, hinting at cola, but itís not "substantive". Finishing thin and not all that strong in flavor. There are hops, but somehow this just doesnít blend together in a tasty fashion. Needs more of everything.

I just made a poor attempt at avoiding boob jokes for a beer called Jug Thumper. Itís only natural that Big Butt Doppelbock would be next on my list. I wanted to be better than resorting to low-brow humor to describe this beer but I gotta say: this beer tastes like ass. Come on, Leinie. Youíve made some surprisingly decent things. Why would you create a doppelbock, a style known for its richness and smoothness, thatís bland and thin? I could complain more about how the carbonation is weak and the aroma is weirdly smoky, but I wonít. All Iíll say is that I donít like Big Butt, and I cannot lie. Okay, Iím done. Iíll see myself out.

Bottle. A- Umami, malty, smoky, roasted. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Meaty, smokey, umami, roasted, malty, watery. P- Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation, smokey finish. O- Big Butt is a perfect name for this beer. Why so? Because it tastes like a big can of ass. I love doppelbocks but this was the worst thing I have drank in some time. Tasted like someone took some rotten sausage, liquid smoke, and burnt wood chips and threw them in a blender. Bad, bad stuff this is. At least it looked nice. The way it tasted youíd expect it to look like a can full of runny shit.

Was so happy they brought it back. That is till I tasted it. So was really let down. They took away the thick full bodied taste that it use to have. The original tasted like the beers that I had while stationed in Europe. It taste more like a Newcastle now. I really hate when Leines has a great beer they do away with it. First Northwoods, and now Big Butt. Come on guys bring back the real beer you had.

Last one of these drank almost 10 years ago. Interesting to see back on the shelf. Dark brown with red hues. Nose of sweet toasted malt, cereal grain, brown sugar, and mild dark fruit. Flavor is toasted grain, cereal, brown sugar and faint cocoa powder. Remember being heavier. Not as bad as others suggest and better than most breweries attempts at lagers.
