COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Eddy Baltic Porter is a blanket of malt flavor. Notes of toffee, cocoa, caramel, toasted bread and sherry fruit flavors are interwoven to produce a symphony of splendor. Our Baltic Porter is an homage to the brewers of the Baltics and a tribute to our own historic brewing waters, the Big Eddy Spring.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a snifter. There weren’t any significant differences in either glass. The appearance was a nice black color with a decent half fingered white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light trickling lacing sliding right on into the body. The smell had some caramel, toffee, cocoa, toasted bread and a cherry-like fruit to it. The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and added a decent dark roasty quality to it. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionable quality about it. The carbonation was fairly subdued but still good. Overall, I say this was a well worthy Baltic Porter to come back to.

Pours a dark reddish brown with brown head fading to a ring leaving some oily spotty lacing. Aroma is molasses, toffee, nutty. Taste is sweet and almost rich at first, but things fall apart as a fruity tartness comes in the middle, ending with a licorice soy sauce astringency. Has potential, but never achieves greatness.

Bottle - big thick tan colored head, dark brown color, super malty aroma and flavor, roasty, creamy, mild fruity notes - pretty good for the style I guess

From bottle. Pours a dark dark reddish black with a big fine beige head. Aroma is dark fruits and chocolate, coffee. Taste is the same, sweet, rich, with some caramel.

Aroma is dark malts, mild spiciness and a hint of harshness. The flavor is dark malts, light chocolate, mild/medium spices, a hint of fruit and a tart finish.

Bottle, pours brown with slight redness. Scent of caramel malt. Taste is sweet caramel, fig and brown sugar. Pretty drinkable.

I’m in Wisconsin for a week, and I saw this at a local River Falls’ beer and spirits establish. Had to have this one. You can’t get this series on the east coast. It’s toasty, sweet caramel toffee goodness in a bourbon barrel. Yum!

[Bottle / 2012 / ~1 year old] Deep, deep brown with a dark-beige, slightly creamy cap. Unexpected clarity, despite the deep hue of the brew. Aroma isn’t as robust as I’d expect for an 8.5% ABV Baltic porter. Boozy cocoa, mild toffee, heaps of molasses, light nuttiness, some date/raisin sweetness... Not bad, but could be amped up a bit. Taste has lots & lots of dark fruitiness up front, with a mildly vinous, almost wine-like flavor. Boozy grapes, raisins, plums, & dates, even hitting with a faint, port-like tartness leading into a very sweet cocoa & cola flavor... Light astringency with molasses, licorice, & a touch of soy sauce in the finish. Not bad, but something’s missing to make this go from "decent" to "good". It’s definitely a "top-tier" brew next to the rest of Leinie’s line-up, but there are many other similarly priced porters/stouts I’d chose over this.

12oz. bottle, 2012 vintage. Some berry jam and dried fruit in the aroma, along with notes of darkly toasted, lightly sweet malts, toffee and some faintly earthy, winey touches in the background. Dark mahogany in color, nearly black, with a very slight, light tan ring head. Flavor profile is gently sweet, fruity and lightly tart, some cherry, prune and faint cocoa, and finishing with a toffeeish, toasty malt presence and faint alcohol. Very low in effervescence on the palate, mildly warming, tannic and coating, and with a full body. Interesting take on the style for sure.

Pours extremely deep brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of raisin and malt. Sweet smell. Medium body. Flavor doesn’t have a strong Baltic quality to it. Sweet barley brownie. The palate is sweet and lingering. Not bad, but not interesting.
