COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Eddy Baltic Porter is a blanket of malt flavor. Notes of toffee, cocoa, caramel, toasted bread and sherry fruit flavors are interwoven to produce a symphony of splendor. Our Baltic Porter is an homage to the brewers of the Baltics and a tribute to our own historic brewing waters, the Big Eddy Spring.

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2014 [Bottle / 2012 / ~1 year old] Deep, deep brown with a dark-beige, slightly creamy cap. Unexpected clarity, despite the deep hue of the brew. Aroma isn’t as robust as I’d expect for an 8.5% ABV Baltic porter. Boozy cocoa, mild toffee, heaps of molasses, light nuttiness, some date/raisin sweetness... Not bad, but could be amped up a bit. Taste has lots & lots of dark fruitiness up front, with a mildly vinous, almost wine-like flavor. Boozy grapes, raisins, plums, & dates, even hitting with a faint, port-like tartness leading into a very sweet cocoa & cola flavor... Light astringency with molasses, licorice, & a touch of soy sauce in the finish. Not bad, but something’s missing to make this go from "decent" to "good". It’s definitely a "top-tier" brew next to the rest of Leinie’s line-up, but there are many other similarly priced porters/stouts I’d chose over this.

12oz. bottle, 2012 vintage. Some berry jam and dried fruit in the aroma, along with notes of darkly toasted, lightly sweet malts, toffee and some faintly earthy, winey touches in the background. Dark mahogany in color, nearly black, with a very slight, light tan ring head. Flavor profile is gently sweet, fruity and lightly tart, some cherry, prune and faint cocoa, and finishing with a toffeeish, toasty malt presence and faint alcohol. Very low in effervescence on the palate, mildly warming, tannic and coating, and with a full body. Interesting take on the style for sure.

Pours extremely deep brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of raisin and malt. Sweet smell. Medium body. Flavor doesn’t have a strong Baltic quality to it. Sweet barley brownie. The palate is sweet and lingering. Not bad, but not interesting.

Heavy licorice and raisin flavor. Unbalanced sweetness with a burnt aftertaste. Not the most enjoyable beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Reddish brown pour with a thin white head. Boozy dark fruit aroma and taste with a nice touch of sourness.

Bottle poured a deep dark brown hue w/ small frothy tan head and some lacing. Big sweet and licorice aromas. Initial flavor is bold sweet w/ a light bitter finish. Tastes are licorice, dark roast malt, red wine, port, toffee, and coffee. Full bodied, soft carbonation, and a dry tannin finish.

Dark pour from draft at standard. Sweet and coffee aroma. Black and thick pallette. Chocolate notes. Not bad!

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a fairly transparent amberish brown with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt and mild stone fruit. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. A solid example of the style.

Clear mahogany with a tin brown head. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, licorice, plum, toasted malts and alcohol. Taste of dark fruits, plum, dates, figs and alcohol. Sweet and sticky and I kept expecting it to get better as it warmed but no such luck. These Big Eddy beers all seem so similar to one another. Thankfully I got them as singles…

Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is molasses, chocolate, malts, and alcohol. Taste is initially chocolate and heavy malts. Then comes mild alcohol followed by more malts and something raisin-like. The transitions are quick and end pretty quickly. There’s also some viscocity that makes itself known.
