2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jhgrantjr (295) - Tennessee, USA - FEB 13, 2013
First Baltic Porter. Poured from bottle, a dark color, dark brown, almost black, with a very small off-white head. Aroma is of roasted malts, dark fruit, some vanilla (maybe). Taste is sweeter than I expected. I don’t have anything else to compare this to, but this wasn’t as good as I expected.

Bottle. Molasses, prune, chocolate, and slight anise aroma. Deep chestnut with a large tan head. Anise and molasses flavor. Reminds me a bit of the Risa Opal candies I ate as a kid in Iceland.... except without the menthol. I liked the candy, but I don’t think I like the flavor as a beer all that much. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Bottle pour to pint glass. Dark body with almost no head. Sweet taste; malty fruit (is there such a thing?); soft and smooth. okay, but only okay.

It poured a dark mohogany/red color with a light tan head. The aroma was of roasted malt and some licorice. The taste was sweet, roasted malt, with some dark fruit and slightly chalky. Average.

Pours a cola colored brown with thin tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma is dominated by tawny port notes and less so by underlying chocolate and caramel. Flavor matches well, but just doesn’t sit well with me.

Pours a dark cola brown color with a tan head that vanishes quickly. Minimal aroma with hint of dark fruit. Dark fruit flavor with toffee, caramel, chocolate, and hint of roasted malt. Big beer!

Dark pour, beige head. Thick. Rich and roasted chocolate, coffee, toffee flavor with notes of caramel and oak. Robust. Nice. A little thin. Tastes much less than 8.5%. I am pleasantly surprised by that.
