COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Eddy Baltic Porter is a blanket of malt flavor. Notes of toffee, cocoa, caramel, toasted bread and sherry fruit flavors are interwoven to produce a symphony of splendor. Our Baltic Porter is an homage to the brewers of the Baltics and a tribute to our own historic brewing waters, the Big Eddy Spring.

Dark brown with small wispy tan head and solid ring around glass. Aroma is fairly sweet, caramel, toffee, chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruit/raisiny. Flavor much the same but without as much substance. Medium body, soft, turns a little thin. Mild roastyness, some alcohol, fairly sweet with medium duration. Some sips I like better than others.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/5/2013. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, molasses, raisin, prune, nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of dark malt notes with moderate fruitiness; and good strength. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, raisin, prune, light roast, nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, dark fruit, nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Baltic porter. All around nice balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2013 Pours a deep rich dark brown with a medium tan head that leaves quickly. Leaves a nice lacing. Has a fruity aroma with hints of chocolate. A medium, to full mouth feel with a flavor of chocolate, roasted and prunes. The sherry/wine taste is a bit overwhelming.

12 ounce bottle from House of 1000 Beers, New Kensington. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, cocoa, dark fruits. The taste is dark fruits, toasted malts, herbal hops, mild oxidation notes. Medium bodied. Meh.

Bottle @ home, picked up at 287 Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Big sweet black licorice, brown sugar, dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, candy, a touch boozy, enticing aroma. Smells good. Quite rich, rich burnt sugar, caramelized sugar, spicy cinnamon, anise, light vanilla, a bit woody, potent chocolate flavor. Lots of raisin and dark fruit notes. Itís a big beer with big flavors. Maybe it just needed some time to mellow out. This is nice. Surprisingly pure deliciousness.

12oz served in a Southern Tier tulip. A - Yellowish tan head on top of a dark garnet brown body. S - Prunes, toasted cereal, molasses, caramel, leather, very faint charred malts, very sweet aroma, cherry fruit, some sweet rose aroma. When it warms molasses dominates everything. T - Tangy molasses, sticky raisins and caramel, roasted malts, hints of bakerís chocolate, has some bitterness as well as a slight sour note. Some leather around the edges. Finishes with a a roasty bitterness. M - Medium body, low to medium carbonation, thin but sticky at times. This is actually pretty good. If this was in a blind taste test I think this would get better reviews. Very robust flavors with a balanced bitter roast. Itís a tad sweet but itís a big beer with tons of sticky flavor. 12 ounce bottle into a brandy snifter thanks to weihenweizen. Pours a darker brown. No sign of head or carbonation. Aroma is roasty with notes of milk chocolate. Taste is super sweet, nearing acrid sugary sweetness. A little roastyness comes back into play in the finish, but its not enough to save this beer. Itís bad.

On tap at a bowling alley - first or second time trying this style. Burnt aspect to it.

Found this one on clearance for about a dollar a bottle, unfortunately that seems to be itís market value - more like a coffee doppelbock than a porter, loads of prune juice and raisin, clean and sugary, simple with a coffee overlay, thin yet almost sticky, weird, and not in a good way, other Big Eddyís have been much better
