3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. 2012 vintage. Pours a deep fig brown with a small tan head. Aroma of metal, dark fruits, chocolate, and toasted nuts. Flavor of dates, chocolate, dry toast, and earth. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a dry, earthy mouthfeel. Decent but I normally like this style better.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark black pour with thin tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, hints of roast, touch of earth, hints of dark fruit and red wine, some slight roast. Taste is a mix of sweet dark fruits, some roast, touch of cocoa powder, hints of a wine like note, some sweet caramel, toffee, finishing sweet. It isnít terrible, but it is pretty sweet.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Toffee, chocolate, and fruit. Leinenkugelís, after nearly 150 years, is finally starting to get creative with their brews. Itís good, but the fruity aftertaste is slightly unappealing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
December 26, 2012 - bottle from Coffee Grounds. Dark brown pour with nice amount of head. Caramel, roasted malt, toffee and dark fruit in the aroma. Taste seemed to be mostly the caramel and dark fruit with a mild alcohol and nutty finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured dark clear brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt and toffee aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium dark sweet flavor with medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12oz bottle from Samís, Durham. Distressing clear and thin pour, looks for all the world like a brown ale from BMC. Very little carbonation, mostly translucent rusty water. Nose is malt and toffee, with just a smidge of fruit undertones and not much promise of a robust porter, Baltic or otherwise. Sure enough, itís thin-bodied as fuck and one-dimensional in its flavors: caramel candy, no base beer to speak of, and none of that gloriously healthy lactic body and finish I enjoy in the style. Good thing the Duck Rabbit just hit shelves this week.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 On tap @ Silver Creek. Of the Big Eddyís Iíve tried (Imp. Russian Stout and Wee Heavy being the others) itís not my favorite. Pours opaque chocoate brown with a pretty cream/tan head. Aroma is a little hard to pin down... toasted hemp? Flavor follows with ... again the toasted hemp and general roastiness and a slight sour finish. Medium body. Overall, not a beer Iíd stock up on, but I commend the effort - I applaud a mass producerís effort into making a quality beer.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Looks and smells promising but an odd flavor note keeps this from being a repeater. Never could place what it was but probably the same thing the previous reviewer called metallic.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-strong chocolate, caramel, and light fruit. It pours a dark mahogany with some transparency and a one finger tan head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is some dotted lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a good dose of milk chocolate and lighter caramel. The finish has moderate roast, fruit, metal, and a touch of alcohol. The metal flavor is even more unpleasant when it clashes with the roast and fruit. Itís medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation. Overall, the metallic finish really kills this beer for me.
