COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Eddy Baltic Porter is a blanket of malt flavor. Notes of toffee, cocoa, caramel, toasted bread and sherry fruit flavors are interwoven to produce a symphony of splendor. Our Baltic Porter is an homage to the brewers of the Baltics and a tribute to our own historic brewing waters, the Big Eddy Spring.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a muddy brown color with a small white head. A sweet nose of caramel and figs. A rich flavor of tobacco, figs, burnt caramel, strawberries. Pretty nice. A bit of smoke. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Light roasted malts, some toffee and chocolate sweetness, toasted grains, and lighter earthy notes. Decent.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a fairly transparent amberish brown with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt and mild stone fruit. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. A solid example of the style.

Bottled. Poured light-medium brown with a short-lived beige head. The aroma picked up near-burnt black malt and vanilla, with not a whole lot else going on. The flavor was very much on the sweet side, with near-burnt black malts and lesser chocolate.. sour roast and dry, earthy hops around.. finished with warm roast and a bit more malty sourness. Medium-bodied and too sweet for my liking on the palate.. just an OK feel.. thin for the style.. I didn’t like it very much, but will drink another.

Savannah, Ga - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 12 oz bottle. Dark brown pour, thin, off white head that clings to the edge of the glass. Molasses and dates in the aroma, trace of bubble gum. Flavor is decidedly sweet with raisins and molasses dominating. Some milk chocolate makes an appearance with a finish of brown sugar. Mouthfeel is nice and thick. Good winter warmer.

A little too sweet for me. Pours dark brown with fizzy head. Smells of stewed malt. Taste is sweet corn malt with slight nutty nitterness. Low carbonation. Bottle in paper bag waiting around in Penn Station.

Bottle:   Deepest of browns, moderate foamy beige head, spotty lacing.   Sweet roasted malt nose, slight soy, a bit of dark pitted fruit, prunes and raisins.   Slight lactose and chocolate notes as well.   Right up front its a bit of a slight sour/tart dark pitted fruit.   Moderate sweetness, fig, dates, and prunes.   Towards the end it has a fairly moderate roastiness and apple skin, almost like many imperial stouts.   I am surprised to see this one rated so low.   While not world class, its pretty solid.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Lingering soy infused dark pitted fruits.   Perhaps not as big or rich as others, but thats okay.   Its fairly warm in Seattle now, so this is an easy Baltic Porter on a hot day.   This one is fairly good.

12 oz bottle and served in snifter: Pours a deep brown with reddish highlights topped by a fading tan head and spartan lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, roast, nuts, prune, figs, tobacco and other earthy yeast esters. The taste is dark fruits and earthy malts, not sweet but still very malty and earthy. The mouthfeel is smooth and oily, would have like a tad more sticky notes here. Solid brew but not quite up to the standards of the best Baltic’s on the market.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a matte black color with a large foamy orange-brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, malty and toasty with notes of molasses, cocoa powder and soy sauce. The flavor was sweet and malty with molasses, cherry, fig, chickory, cocoa powder and soy sauce. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Solid.
