4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jebert (405) - Watertown, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Pours a deep dark mahogany with a small caramel colored head. Aroma is malt with a hint of chocolate. Very creamy with thick viscosity on the palate. The taste is chock full of malt, chocolate, coffee with a hint of sweet molasses. Not hoppy. This is a quality beer full of flavor that can be enjoyed alone or paired with nuts and/or cheeses.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 polomagnifico (1105) - Saginaw, Michigan, USA - NOV 4, 2012
Bottle. Aroma has big notes of caramel, toffee, cocoa, dark bread malts and porto. Great nose!!! Very dark brown that sits black in the glass. Large frothy off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Flavor is very sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied and watery soft. Overall an amazing beer I can’t get enough of. I have know idea why the rating for this are so low. It drank good to me.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Kco (49) - USA - SEP 24, 2012
When I first tried this brew, I would not have rated it as well. But I had it with cheese. This pairing brought out rich nutty and chocolate notes. It is one of best beers I have paired with cheese.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 HighWine (836) - Whalesbro, Illinois, USA - FEB 17, 2013
2012 bottle to snifter. First observation is that this is a lot lighter than I was expecting. It’s brown with a garnet hue. Short lived head fades to a thin collar around the glass. Lightly carbonated with slow moving bubbles ascending to the top of the brew. Sugar cane and light molasses aroma. Quite sweet and nice. Taste starts off sweet like the aroma but then balances out with a touch if bitter roast and finishes with a sugared black coffee flavor. Somewhat slippery in the mouth. Not as dark or as much licorice flavor as I was expecting but I like the coffee roast sweetness. Tasty.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 leah2974 (445) - Georgia, USA - JAN 16, 2013
Aroma has dried fruit and smoky top notes. Flavor is roasty and not too sweet. Rounded thick malts.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blairgus (1751) - California, USA - NOV 14, 2012
14 nov 2012, tap. Black. Nose is cocoa, alcohol, burnt toast. Med body and moderately fizzy. Becomes a huge beer once you taste it! Lots of alcohol, bitter dark chocolate, faint raisins, toasted grain, bitter finish. Pretty good.

Kinda like this label. Rated this much higher than most??? Nice aroma of cocoa and malt +? Nice dark pour. Med palate nice flavor similar to aroma with added complexity. Some alcohol dark fruit in there. Glad I got a 4 pack

From AC Beer Fest 2013. The aroma is fruit, bread, brown sugar. The appearance is deep brown, light tan head. The flavor is sweet, fruit, caramel, bread. The finish is light pine hops. Medium/thick in body. Very nice. I don’t know why this has so many mediocre ratings.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a muddy brown color with a small white head. A sweet nose of caramel and figs. A rich flavor of tobacco, figs, burnt caramel, strawberries. Pretty nice. A bit of smoke. Interesting.
