3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 WisconsinBeer (686) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - JUL 26, 2012Bottle. Pours a super clear deep orange color. Minimal head, but lingers and bubbles on as it disappears from the glass. Flavor is a bit of ripe fruit and orange honey, followed by a wallop of citrus and slightly herbal hops. Finish is very sweet and lingers. Just a bit of heat from the alcohol. Body is a bit thin, but the flavor profile is right on. A solid addition to the Big Eddy line.

Aromas of roasted caramel and amber malts. Deep copper with a amber hue. Flavors of mellow/bitter hops upfront with a unique metallic and caramel malt base. Overall, unique IPA but still nothing outstanding.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Glouglouburp (5545) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 8, 2013
In short: A very lame boozy, sugary and slightly buttery golden IIPA.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed moderately fresh 2 months after receiving the bottle from oakbluff, thanks Scott.
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a very small off-white head.
In long: Nose is toasted grains, caramel, annoying buttery notes, coniferous hop resin, dank basement. Far from an aromatic bomb to say the least. Taste is oily cereals, brown sugar, buttery caramel, tree sap, hop resin, booze. High sweetness sensation. Alcohol is very much apparent. Medium sticky bitterness. If I didn’t know better I would think this is a one-year-old tired IIPA but I know the first bottling of this beer was only a few months before I drank my bottle. I don’t remember the last time I had such a lame IIPA from a well-known established American brewery, pretty much packs everything I don’t like from an IPA these days. And to think it is someone I consider a friend who sent me this crap, I haven’t been so insulted since the day I read in my roommate private diary that he thought I am someone who doesn’t respect people privacy.

Pours a crystal clear deep amber/copper color with a decent sized off white head that quickly dissipates to a cap. Aromas of earth citrus and pine with an almost buttery aroma as well as hints of light sweet fruits and plenty of bread and caramel to fill in the gaps. The flavor is kind of heavy on the malt side of things with sugary and sweet fruits up front. Resinous citrus comes up next, but gets drowned out pretty quickly by the presence of a bit of ethanol. Long sweet lingering finish with a firm earthy hop bitterness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Seems a bit sweet and thick for a double IPA. Tasty brew, but more like a barleywine honestly.

Bottle. Pours a very clear dark amber color with a slight white head. Nose is quite hoppy, with some great floral and citrus elements smacking you right in the face. Taste is fairly bitter up front, but eases up with some balance on the back end. Very nice beer...
2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 heemer77 (5008) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - APR 7, 2013
Bottled 2013 version listed at 8.2% abv. A deep rusty brown that is really more garnet red in light. There is a thin off white head. The big nose has tons of caramel, toffee and peanuts. Grapefruit is very strong with some bread dough. A lightly carbonated body fits a thick and sticky body. There is plenty of sweet citrus and caramel. Notes of almonds are also present along with brandy hints. More fruity than anything. I would have thought this was a strong ale or barleywine if no one told me differently. Any hops are absolutely dominated by the big malty body. This is a cloying sweet mess.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dlbeer (381) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Bottle. Orange/amber pour with off white head and a lot of lacing. Smells of sweet malts and hops. Not nearly as hoppy as I was expecting. A little too sweet. Couldn't really decide how much I liked this beer.
