3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2012 12oz bottle. Looks like there might have been some sort of date or code at one point, but itís too smudged for me to make out. The label around the neck of the bottle has 2011 on it.
Pours pitch black in color with a light brown colored head that stood about a finger tall. Even after holding my glass up to the light, Iím not able to see through this one. Moderate amount of head retention and lacing.
Smells of dark fruits, coffee grounds, and molasses. Not much in the way of chocolate like you get with other RIS. Thereís a charred aroma in there as well.
Taste: Thereís a good amount of roasted malt flavor and burnt sugar up front. The sweetness builds and intensifies as the liquid sweeps across your palate. Thankfully, thereís a touch of bitterness towards the middle that kind of balances things out. Iím also getting some coffee towards the back end.
Medium-full body with low to moderate carbonation. It has an almost silky mouthfeel.
A nice Imperial Stout overall. A bit of a surprise from a brewery that makes a lot of girl-friendly summer beers.
Moreyís Bottom Line: While this certainly isnít the best RIS that Iíve had, it pretty darn tasty. Iíd buy this for the right price. Good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Black with a nice brown head, a bit creamy. Aroma of dark chocolate, mocha, some liqueur and a bit of dark fruits. Flavor of lots of chocolate with some berries/cherries, some caramel, a nutty note and a drier and slightly burnt finish. Full-bodied. Great stuff.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A wonderful surprise find on base, thank you ordering clerks at the Navy Exchange! Great looking beer, motor oil with a short lived small reddish/brown head. Loads of malt, baking cocoa and prunes in the nose. Sweet & malty with floral hints and a slow forming, yet lingering bitter finish. Some alcohol but it is well masked. This is a solid RIS, I am impressed!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Supremely dark color: chocolate milk with a mocha-brown head. About as see through as a marble statue. Aroma is all malts: dark chocolate, sugary toffee and pungent dates/raisins. An unusual nuttiness in the aroma. The malt flavors have a candi sugar sweetness, but are immediately followed by burnt cookies. The slick, oily feel puts it somewhere between an Imp. Stout and a barleywine. Itís much sweeter than most RISís, but itís quite a taste explosion.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a dark brown colored body yielding a tan two finger foamy head with some spider web lacing around the sides of the glass.
The smell had a nice combination of chocolate, coffee, and malts. Some dark fruits enter in as the beer warms.
The taste had some sweetness yet brings in a decent bitterness as the beer warms.
The palate was about a light to medium and was borderline watery. ABV, what ABV, this is supposed to be 9.5, yeah, I donít feel it. This is too drinkable for a RIS, almost as if the alcohol is way too well hidden.
Overall, well, everything smells and tastes good. Its got the normal appearance of an RIS, but lacks the thickness I look for a RIS.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Actually, pretty nice and fairly drinkable imperial stout. I was surprised. Big oily pour. Red wine aroma with a lot of raisin. Very fruity and lighter body for a big beer. Chocolate, malty. Hoppy finish. Medium carbonation and medium body. Nice stuff.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured a small dark brown frothy rapidly diminishing head. Heavy bread & molasses nose with a bit of nutty-roast and rasin ,alcohol is fairly heavy. Medium in body with lively carbonation and a bitter finish. An ok beer but a bit weak for a R I S.
