The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugel’s tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

12-oz bottle received via trade with tjthresh. Pours opaque with a small, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, chocolate, coffee), average hops (perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of alcohol, prune, smoke, tar, and licorice. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness and bitterness, light acidity.

Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head. Everlasting swirl of head sits atop the brew from start to finish. Dark roasted aroma with notes of molasses, dark chocolate, coffee and hints of diacetyl and smoke. Medium to heavy sweetness with moderate bitterness and mild, acrid tanginess. Whispers of black cherries and blueberries. Full-bodied with a chewy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Bitter-sweet, chocolaty finish. Excellent brew, but a touch too sweet for me to go nuts over!

UPDATED: JUN 2, 2013 Ok holy shit this is amazing. I must stock up on this and fast. Seriously amazing. Black pour wtih a pretty decent brown head. Aroma is tons of chocolate and molasses. Some raisin notes are evident as well. The flavor is just delicious. Sweet and creamy with chocolate, sweet cuban coffee, molasses, raisins, maple syrup, fresh cane syrup, fig preserves, and a hint of soy sauce. Damn this is fine. Again, I need more...asap!
