Had it on tap. Dark black pour. Oaky hop finish. Very smooth with hints o burnt coffee. Dark malty sweetness makes this beer a winner for sure

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Almost black with one finger of light brown head and extensive lacing, a swirl of roasted flavors that barely translates to an aroma, highly viscous leading to good mouth feel.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Aroma suggests a high-quality soy sauce. Deep black-brown color; very modest deep brown head. Mouthfeel surprisingly light, and the 9.5% alcohol is scarcely noticeable. Taste a lovely balance of mild toffee sweetness and bitterness; suggestion of bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. I am sorely tempted to overindulge.

Very complex taste. Very malty but you still get hops. 9.5abv but it doesnít have a strong alcohol taste.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
4 pk from Discount Liquor, Milw, WI. Nice dark tan head with moderate coarse bubbles that faded quickly. Fighting a bit of a cold, but aroma punches through - chocolate, vanilla, cream, plum, and a hint of oak. Flavor is full of licorice and dark chocolate but well balanced with bitterness which lasts into the finish. Carbonation is moderately high. Pleasantly surprised by this beer - I think this may improve with age.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 15, 2008 Poured from a half full growler that exhibited ample carbonation when opened.
Aroma is heavy dark fruit and molasses. Very sweet in the nose.
The beer poured relatively still and dark...nearly black and opaque around the edges.
Flavor was again, heavy dark fruit and molasses but with a nice toasty malt backbone and a nice caramel character.
The palate was medium to full bodied. Not overly thick but, more moderate, yet coating.
Overall, I enjoyed this tremendously. Iíve looked forward to it for some time. Itís nice to be able to love a beer from the brewery I was weaned on, even though they went large scale so many years ago.
Is this going to be the macro beer that quiets the macro bashers? Itís about flavor, not quantity, right? I mean, great beer is great beer.....am I wrong?
Looking forward to the bottles of this as soon as I can get my hands on them.
Thanks to a generous and anonymous member of the "other site" for this generous pour.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Typical Imperial Stout color and head although head diminishes rather quickly. Sweet malty flavor that leaves sugar on the lips. Decent mouth feel, maybe a little thin. Good offering from this brewery.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Surprised by this one. Very smooth with nice roasted notes. Not quite as much of a fig/plum taste as many imperial stouts, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

Holy Wisconsin wow! This beer is amazing, an excellent surprise. Pours an oily, inky black with a nice almost espresso-like cream on top. The flavor and body are full and silken. Itís got exceptional mouthfeel and really smooth, balanced taste. This is world class stuff. Buy some if you see any.

Bottle thanks to myself. Iím the biggest anti-Leinie man alive. Trying their other beers is like going into my cleaning closet and blind tasting cleaners. But I must say, itís a quality beer. Small mocha/tan head. Lighter mouth feel than most imperial stouts. Dark fruit, oatmeal and chocolate complexity. Very surprised. Very good. Try this. Might even be worth the four pack.
