The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugelís tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

Appearance is black with some slight deep mahogany tint. Pours a nice tan/brown creamy head even after aging for a year. Aroma is raisin, plum, licorice, and cocoa. Also pick up slight smokiness in the nose. Taste starts with raisin and deep roasted chocolate with a slight hint of coffee mon the back end. Despite the deep, rich malt the hop bitterness balances out the flavor nicely. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy, medium bodied for an imperial stout. Finishes with a nice hop bitterness balance and warming from the alcohol. Overall, a great imperial stout.

Getting a lot of big hard roast in this on the aroma and flavor. Canít really get passed the overall burnt character. Getting some black licorice also but thatís the only other distinguishing characteristic. The body is light for style and residual sugars are all but missing in this one. It would be good to try another batch of this to see if this one was overcooked. Thank You Leinenkugels. 2010 12oz.

Bottle. Pours pitch black, brownish, beige head. Smells big of coffee and bitter chocolate. Taste is big, complex and robust. Typical burnt malt notes and chocolate for an impy stout. A nice spicy molasses closing note.

Black pour with little head. Aroma is alcohol, coffee, chocolate raisins, and toffee. Taste is coffee with a tangy copper present. Alcohol is apparent. Bitter after taste.

Bottle. Poured a deep, dark brown with a decent tan head. The aroma was full of dark malt, kind of sweet, with some hints of dark fruit, as well. Flavor was really in line with the aroma. Throw in a little caramel and chocolate. The only thing I have to suggest would be a bit more carbonation. Otherwise, this was a great stout. Alcohol was not noticeable. I was very surprised to see this was by Leinenkugelís. Get in my belly!!!

The Big Eddy pours as a very black beer with little head. The aroma has much malt in it, and itís a rather sweet, but slightly spicy malt. Thereís a hint of apple as well. The taste is complex, I can taste a lot of herbs (particularly anise). I can also taste the high alcohol level quite clearly (although it isnít overwhelming). The palate is smooth. Great, great beer! I hope Leinenkugelís keeps brewing this one.

An alright imperial stout, actually pretty impressive for leinenkugel. Has a little too much sweetness to it.

Tasty and robust, with roasted coffee and caramel. This stout is plenty to write home about with a mild carbonation and plenty of hops playing a fine background. This brew only wants a bit better grain balance and slightly smoother mouthfeel, but it doesn't stop Eddy from brig a wonderful addition to the party. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle. Pours a unique rust colored 3/4" head. Beer is midnight black. Soft aromas of dark chocolate. Flavour is initially of dark chocolate but then has a bright fruity finish. Soft, silky palate. Great aftertaste of dark chocolate. Really good!
