The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugelís tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

Pours like liquid chocolate with almost no head. Sweet and malty aroma. Sweet chocolate, hint of hops, fruit (prunes and raisins) and some smokiness. Very thick/syrupy texture and some lingering warmth. I wish the aroma was more intense and that the palate was a little less syrupy and a little more full-bodied, but overall, quite delicious.

Tasty and robust, with roasted coffee and caramel. This stout is plenty to write home about with a mild carbonation and plenty of hops playing a fine background. This brew only wants a bit better grain balance and slightly smoother mouthfeel, but it doesn't stop Eddy from brig a wonderful addition to the party. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Leinenkugels is still owned by Miller and with this stout they have made a miracle brew.Nice to spend the $$$ for a union brewery. This brew was expensive but the alc/vol was very well hidden...and the monies well spent, very impressive.Stay home when drinking this brew since just opening the bottle and sniffing the fumes will put you above the legal limit to drive.

Chocolate, vanilla, bananas, bread, and burnt roast aroma after a black pour. Overpowering smoky flavor right away, after that the sweet vanilla and chocolate notes become noticeable. There is a very subtle hops ending to this one that took me a while to notice. Motor oil full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a slightly bitter finish. Alcohol isnít noticeable at all throughout the entire beer. Very surprised from my typical lenies letdowns.

Coffee and chocolate aromas present. Molasses is also present. Bourbon flavor mixed with woody characteristics. Slight astringency but finishes smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice offering from a big brewery. Mine was a 2010 bottle via trade. Perhaps still too young, the alcohol was hot and the mouth wasnít balanced especially well. Some smoky notes that didnít seem to belong. Nice hop character and chocolate notes.

I had this from tap in a snifter. The aroma is laced in caramel and chocolate, though it is not overly coherent. The head is a deep tan and dissapates quickly, though it does not fully retreat from the glass. The taste is obviously that of a Russian Imperial-styled stout with an extra content of sugar, though it is tainted in a bitterness that is not derivative of hops. It is very good, but not stunning. The bitterness continues right through to the finish and lingers well into the aftertaste, taking away from an otherwise very enjoyable brew.

Besides the normal coffee, chocolate, coco smell there is a smell of sweetness to it, almost a sweet caramel smell. Classic dark coffee appearance, taste is raisns, coffee, bittersweet chocolate. Very complex stout, so much so that you canít taste the 9.5 ABV. Needs more kick, very malty.

Pours a dark black with big light brown head, itís a big beer with flavors of malt and chocolate, high alcohol flavor takes a little away from this one. Pretty good overall though

Bottle. Pours a dark brown almost black, with a creamy frothy chocolate moose colored head. The aroma chocolates, coffee, dark fruits such as raisin and plum, hits as you open, and keeps coming as your drinking. Taste, complex, the roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and fruits blend and almost explode on your taste buds. The alcohol is quite present, but not overbearing. The hop finish and aftertaste mix with the chocolate and coffee for a lingering taste. The feeling on the mouth is a medium heavy that thickens as it warms up, adding more texture as you continue to drink. Overall this is a wonderful Imp. Like Kingpin says, not a Dark Lord, but damn fine.
