3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
"another courtesy of pfoxyjohn. a big boozy vinous sweet ass stout. went great with dessert. not sticky, but very chocolatey and rum soaked raisin sweet. little hop presence, or roasted presence. tasty, but a bit too boozy and a one trick pony. still easily the best iíve had from Leine."

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
I must have re-checked the label about 5 times because I couldnít believe this was made by the shandy guys. But itís a real, legit imperial stout. Big boozy flavor and mouthfeel that would undoubtedly improve with some aging. Hits you with tons of bitter chocolate up front, followed by alcohol burn in the finish. Probably a little too bitter for its own good. There is also some plum, but it is mostly overpowered.
A very big stout with lots of character, and one that screams out for some bourbon barrel aging to smooth out the palate.

Poured from a 2012 bottle into a snifter dark brown with slight head.
Aroma is dark fruit slight booze.
Flavor is figs & raisins. Some booze. Definite cocoa. The bitter finish was surprising considering the age on the brew
Balanced nicely. Smooth. Very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: 2011 release, so this is about 3 years old. Jet black pour; crazy large head, both for style & aged. Fine-bubbled, velvety, deep-tan in color, slow to recede, leaving generous amounts of lacing all over. Robust aroma of bakerís chocolate, black licorice, figs, sweet plums, burnt brown sugar, light roast, mallow foam, & perhaps just a slight hint of coffee bean. Smells very nice. Big flavors of caramelized brown sugar, tempered caramel, bittersweet chocolate, light ash, touches of anise, deep plums & dates, with a very slight, milky & creamy aspect wafting in & out throughout. Little bit of back-end bitterness; slightly roasted with a dried dark fruit finish. Relatively smooth, creamy mouth feel. Hard to believe this comes from the same guys who make Summer Shandy & Berry Weiss. This is really good.

4.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Can you say malty, yum. Hops definetly present on the back end but the malts are what hit you right away. I have a weird way of rating hoppy beers and itís by the number of sneezes which for me range from 1 to 4. This Russian imperial stout was a 2 sneezer for me. I loved it and will be on the lookout for more.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 bottle to oversized snifter. I donít think Iíve ever seen a review of an aged bottle of this beer. I really enjoy this fresh. Aged it has the same gorgeous black pour with a chocolatey brown head. Head fades to a tapioca ring around most of the glass. Delightful aroma of balers chocolate and coffee liqueur. Taste is dark cocoa, charred maple, and smoke. Aged this loses a little steam mid taste. The roastiness becomes lighter and some vanilla flavor presents itself. Body is viscous and the finish is quite bitter from the roasted malts. Still quite good but better fresh.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle poured into a pint glass.
A - Pours black as night with a big two finger tall tan head leaving spotty lacing down the glass.
S - Smells of dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, and some dark berries. It smells very sweet with a bit of a berry twang toward the end.
T - Starts off with a good bit of dark roasted malt quickly giving way to a mix of dark chocolate, molasses, black licorice, coffee, and some black berries. Even with all the sweet dark flavors going on the fruitiness is still quite prominent. The finish has quite a bit of dark roast, lingering for a short period of time.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Thick, syrupy, feel lingering through the finish.
O - While I didnít "love" this beer I did enjoy it. It had a nice berry component you donít get very much with bigger stouts. Good but far from great.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Black with a 1 finger mocha head. Aroma is dark fruit, fudge and char. Taste follows pretty closely. Extremely rich mouthfeel and almost no carb. Moderate booziness. Very nice effort from a brewery I wouldn't expect.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black with a big dark mocha head. Aroma roasty and sweet, with coffee, chocolate, and liquor notes. Taste very roasty, burnt, very bitter chocolate, very rich and full with a strong alcohol note. Palate strong, roasty, and alcoholic. This whole beer feels like itís a higher ABV than it actually is, which at 9.5% is saying something.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle to glass. Jet black hue with creamy brown head that held a ring. Aroma really opened as it warmed and included essences if caramel, roast, toffee, chocolate, coffee, ethanol, figs, raisins, cola, tobacco, vanilla, leather, prunes, soy. Mouthfeel is great with a full body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a nice astringent bitter following and a clean ethanol finish. Overall this is a nice brew.
