on draft...black as night and almost chewy...this had the base flavor of all leinenkugel beers...dont ask what iím talking about just something i taste with all of their beers. this was pretty darn good. great deep roasted malt flavor and a bit hoppy at the same time. the aroma was warm and welcoming. never drink cold let it warm up and sip...you will be rewarded for your patience.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle; pour is murky dark brown with a heavy khaki head, with heavy retention in this tulip. This one was smokier than expected; dark fruits, and dark chocolate on the nose. The flavor profile begins with a hop bitterness, smoky undertones, chocolate malts, dark fruits, and again- some hops linger on the finish. I didnít find this one incredibly interesting or incredibly balanced either - a decent imperial though, either way

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours pitch black with a medium mocha head...looks thick...decent lacing and retention...lively. Aroma has light smoke and dark fruit...some mild licorice. Flavor has dark fruit and a bit of coffee...very roasty with some caramely sweetness. Mouthfeel is on the heavier side and the finish is sweet/roasty and slightly burnt.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Thick brew, inky dark, with one finger of tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, sour notes. Taste is big sweet at the start quickly transitioning to burnt grains, dark roasted burnt toast in water, coffee, bitter and sour, somewhat turned tark fruits. Very thick palate - you wonít get up feeling empty after one of these. Overall, and intense and solid brew, a little harsh and unpeasant to my sensibilities and taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2010 Older bottle from northernbrews. Black with huge beige head. Aroma and flavor consist of big chocolate, sweet mollasses character, candied dark fruits. Flavor much the same, big sweet character, not really cloying though, enough roast and hop character to balance. Sticky mouthfeel. Much better than the bottles I had originally.

Bottle shared at Columbus 10. Poured JET BLACK and thick. No head. Taste was woody, and roasted nuts, chocolate and coffee. Not bad really.

Bottle courtesy from Styles, Nice smell of molasses. Taste was sweet with hints of dried fruit. Not over powering but noticible. Alcohol was well hidden. lacing was nice also. Good beer

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz Bottle. Striking barbeque aroma, very rich and tangy with molasses, pork skin char, brown sugar, spices, smoke, vinegar, the whole works. A total experience. Rich and blasting with roast and char. Itís a pretty nice aroma. Pours a heavenly deep black, with a really luxuriant silky soft head, that laces and bubble beautifully in maple wood. Flavor gets me down. This is too charred, too rich, too coarse. Thereís a crushing harshness to the profile of this beer. Thereís some higher alcohols that make it estery in a peculiar way, that somehow fights with the roast. Thereís tannic tendencies and a mess of chocolate. Not particularly smooth, it has rough patches too clean up. The most disconcerting aspect is the bubblegum and fake fruit sensation in the back of the palate. Hops are non-existent. Too sweet and too messy.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an extremely dark brown with little head, decent lacing. A whole lot of roasted malt and chocolate, Flavor seems to be lacking a little something, seems like it could use some more carbonation.
