COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout was brewed at Leinenkugel’s tiny 10th street brewery in Milwaukee. This brew boasts a selection of 11 malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hops. Dark and complex, with chocolate tones and notes of dark fruits, it is daring yet delicious. Travels well. Ages well.

Bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown with minimal brown head. Smells of coffee, chocolate. Taste is pretty similar, very sweet, not a lot of bitterness in it. Smooth, easy to drink.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Chocolate syrup and sour pit fruit aromas. Chocolate and dark molasses upfront turning to espresso and plum in the lasting finish.

On tap at Ridgewood Raleigh. Powerful coffee flavor. One of the darkest beers I've seen. Good taste. Would gladly order again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2011 sitting my basement for a couple years. From the pour you can tell this is a big, heavy beer. Very dark, very thick, very little head. Roasted malt in the nose. Still some hop character, complex, roasted notes, smoke notes and some sweetness to it as well. Some underlying soy sauce in here too, which I don’t remember when the beer was fresh. Very nice beer, would love to try a barrel aged version.

Bottle. Deep, dark, reddish black. Thin head. Aroma is of dark fruit, caramel, syrup. Nice drink -- smooth and even, a little burn, but not much. Definitely even keeled, all told. Rich roast carries in the background. Decent. (#4983, 4/13/2013)

Pours a nice dark brown with minimal head. Has some malt and chocolate, bit of vegetal quality. Taste is some nice malt and has a decent roast, medium body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Bob in myrtle beach. Pretty good stuff. Not complex enough to be great. Malt dominates. Dark chocolate nose with a bit of dark fruit. Mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Not a lot of hops but well integrated as this was not too sweet.

Went in with high expectations and was not dissapointed. Close, but it was still a good beer. Dark dark black pour with almost no head, just a beige brim. Nose of coffee, chocolate, dark, malts, cherries, dark fruits, licorice, slight hoppage. Got a bit better as it warmed. Not as good as expected, but still a rock solid brew.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2011 I tried this one again with a 2011 vintage. Way sweeter with a lot less balance and finesse. While still pretty cheap, it is not as good as I recall. Thanks for the sample, Kyle. Black body with a light brown head. The aroma is pancakes with some coffee. There are also prunes and milk chocolate. The taste has raisins, milk chocolate. and brandy. The mouthfeel is medium with a little coffee. This is light on the carbonation. The roast character is fairly mild and there is a tannic finish that gets a little more annoying as you drink. Solid effort.

Pours out jet black with a huge cocoa head that dies slow and laces big. Smells of chocolate covered fruit, dried plums, coffee and cocoa. Taste is big chocolate, some dark fruit and coffee but all out of sorts. These flavors usually are perfect together but they all seem off. Turned off by the chalky finish. Full in the mouth and the ABV is well hidden. A victim of hype.
