3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 nickd717 (3394) - San Francisco, California, USA - OCT 18, 2009Bottle via trade thanks to badbeer on BA. Pours black and fairly thick with a lasting tan head. Aroma is roast, dark fruits, chocolate, and sherry. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, caramel, dark fruits, wood, and some sherry-like oxidative notes. Maybe a touch of soy sauce, but still it’s very good. Palate is smooth and full with soft carbonation.

Big Eddy pours clear brown-black, but rests opaque black in the glass. There is a fizzy mocha head that provides a little lacing.
Roasted malts, molasses, toffee. dark fruit and raisin fill the nose. The bouquet is strong and lasts well to the last drop!
Sweet roasted malts, caramel, coffee, and bitter-sweet chocolate give way to sweet malty toffee finish. Hops take a back seat, only leaving a subtle grassy pine in an abundantly roasted malt-coffee aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting stout, indeed!
Soft carbonation accompanies a heavy tongue weight. This beer goes down silky- almost syrupy. It’d be difficult to drink ten of these, but, one is one to savor for sure.
Overall, this is a fabulous Russian Imperial. Unlike most brews, Big Eddy boasts a strong nose and rich taste without letting up an iota for the duration of the glass. Anyone that looks for a malt forward, sweet, rich, and impressive stout is sure to appreciate this one! I encourage anyone that happens upon this on tap or in a liquor store to not let this one slip through their fingers! I had this on tap at Bukowski’s in Boston, and wasn’t letting someone else buy it at my favorite liquor store! I even bought a little extra to age. I’ll be back at a later date to review that!

2012 batch. Big Dark head. Smell reminds me of christmas: figs and smoked ham. Moderately sweet for the style. Little carb. Tastes roasty smoky and grainy. Slight lactic tang. Delicate and very well balanced for an russian imperial stout.

What an impressive beer. Dark brown, almost black beer, with a muddy brown head. Strong aromas of dark chocolate and coffee emanate from the glass. Tastes of dark, rich coffee, some molasses, lots of dark chocolate, and even some boozy bourbon-like flavors in the syrupy finish. Surprisingly sweet for the style, a bit cloying, but very good. Heavy beer, yet silky smooth. A true delight, I highly recommend giving this one a go.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Steverus0 (68) - Shreveport, Louisiana, USA - MAY 10, 2013
Tasty and robust, with roasted coffee and caramel.
This stout is plenty to write home about with a mild carbonation and plenty of hops playing a fine background.
This brew only wants a bit better grain balance and slightly smoother mouthfeel, but it doesn't stop Eddy from brig a wonderful addition to the party.

My first Big Eddy imperial stout and it doesn't disappoint. On the nose it hits you with a but of oakiness, charred characteristics, and a little bit of caramel. On the palate it has hints of bourbon on tip of its noticeable caramel and bits of chocolate taste. Overall very good.

12 oz. bottle- Pours pitch black with a creamy mocha colored head. Aroma is strong in coffee and chocolate, leather and tobacco are noticeable too. The taste is bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee, deeply roasted malts. Body is big, and carbonation is medium. I really enjoyed this beer, I am surprised it is from the same brewer that makes all those light foo foo shandy beers.
