Poured a small dark brown frothy rapidly diminishing head. Heavy bread & molasses nose with a bit of nutty-roast and rasin ,alcohol is fairly heavy. Medium in body with lively carbonation and a bitter finish. An ok beer but a bit weak for a R I S.

Poured from bottle into snifter glass. This is an aged 2011 vintage drank late September 2014. Poured very dark, opaque with dark tan two-finger head. Nice lacing. With 11 malts, there is a lot of raisin, fig smell along with hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste brought out the sugars from the malts. Rather heavy; a nice example of an Imperial Stout. Although there are three different hops used, they just balance out the sugars that would have stayed. A long lasting taste that has the astringent tastes of alcohol. Keeps you warm. Not a bad tasting Imperial.

Bottle. Pours near black with a dark yellowish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a combination of roasted malts, dark grains and a hint of chocolate as well as just a hint of coconut. Flavor has lots of dark grains and bitter roasted malts with a hint of chocolate and some dark fruits in the finish.

"another courtesy of pfoxyjohn. a big boozy vinous sweet ass stout. went great with dessert. not sticky, but very chocolatey and rum soaked raisin sweet. little hop presence, or roasted presence. tasty, but a bit too boozy and a one trick pony. still easily the best iíve had from Leine."

I must have re-checked the label about 5 times because I couldnít believe this was made by the shandy guys. But itís a real, legit imperial stout. Big boozy flavor and mouthfeel that would undoubtedly improve with some aging. Hits you with tons of bitter chocolate up front, followed by alcohol burn in the finish. Probably a little too bitter for its own good. There is also some plum, but it is mostly overpowered.
A very big stout with lots of character, and one that screams out for some bourbon barrel aging to smooth out the palate.

Aroma is dark fruit slight booze.
Flavor is figs & raisins. Some booze. Definite cocoa. The bitter finish was surprising considering the age on the brew

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: 2011 release, so this is about 3 years old. Jet black pour; crazy large head, both for style & aged. Fine-bubbled, velvety, deep-tan in color, slow to recede, leaving generous amounts of lacing all over. Robust aroma of bakerís chocolate, black licorice, figs, sweet plums, burnt brown sugar, light roast, mallow foam, & perhaps just a slight hint of coffee bean. Smells very nice. Big flavors of caramelized brown sugar, tempered caramel, bittersweet chocolate, light ash, touches of anise, deep plums & dates, with a very slight, milky & creamy aspect wafting in & out throughout. Little bit of back-end bitterness; slightly roasted with a dried dark fruit finish. Relatively smooth, creamy mouth feel. Hard to believe this comes from the same guys who make Summer Shandy & Berry Weiss. This is really good.

Can you say malty, yum. Hops definetly present on the back end but the malts are what hit you right away. I have a weird way of rating hoppy beers and itís by the number of sneezes which for me range from 1 to 4. This Russian imperial stout was a 2 sneezer for me. I loved it and will be on the lookout for more.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 bottle to oversized snifter. I donít think Iíve ever seen a review of an aged bottle of this beer. I really enjoy this fresh. Aged it has the same gorgeous black pour with a chocolatey brown head. Head fades to a tapioca ring around most of the glass. Delightful aroma of balers chocolate and coffee liqueur. Taste is dark cocoa, charred maple, and smoke. Aged this loses a little steam mid taste. The roastiness becomes lighter and some vanilla flavor presents itself. Body is viscous and the finish is quite bitter from the roasted malts. Still quite good but better fresh.
