COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rare blend of rye malts gives a spicy complexity to a brew with the unforgettable depth of an American barleywine ale.

Leinenkugelís Big Eddy Ryewine Ale has a thin-to-medium beige head, a semi-clear, red-brown (amber) appearance, some visible bubble streams, no sediment, and minimal lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich bread, cream sherry, sweetness, caramel, and nougat. Flavor is of those elements, a little metal (sadly), some alcohol, and toffee. Mouthfeel is medium and a bit slick, and Leinenkugelís Big Eddy Ryewine finishes semi-dry, surprisingly refreshing, and easily drinkable. Very little alcohol detected in this booze bomb. Overall, this is most excellent. RJT

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear dark mahogany color with a thin off white head. The aroma and flavor have dark caramel, dark fruits, some spicy rye notes, the alcohol is noticeable but not distracting. I like this one for what it is. Nice drinking rye wine I would be willing to get again.

Rich malt, some sweetness, hops. A tad bit of spice, dark fruit. Decently full body, creamy, malt, a little alcohol. Fairly strong taste, but very nice balance. Pretty good.

Pours a clear dark ruby reddish. Small off-white head, partially lasting. Deep aroma; rich malty, dark fruit, hops to balance, a layer of spiciness/rye. Full body, little oily, little creamy, some booze but not too much. Decent balance overall, smooth in spots and not in others. Sweet, malty, dark red fruity, hops and fair bitterness.

The very first thing I thought of when I smelled this beer was maple sugar candy. No maple here, but it came to mind initially. A second attempt produced dark grains, dark fruit - raisins, plums, prunes, and a sugary sweetness. A translucent deep plum pour with rapidly dissipating white head and no lacing. Really quit beautiful in a snifter. The taste is pleasingly sweeet. Rich sweet dark fruit, malts, Belgian sugar all up front, followed by grain, and culminating in a spicy, slightly bitter finish. Nice. Full body with soft carbonation. Round mouthfeel - coats the tongue. Overall, while moderately sweet, this will be a exceptional winter night sipper. It is also one I plan to "age". It should only improve with time.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a cola color with a quick tight off white head that fades to a collar. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and spicy rye with some bread and warming scents. Taste has more spicy rye booze and caramel malts and bitters. Palate is full slick sticky crisp and finishes warming. Pretty nice!

(bottle) Pours a clear dark red color with a very thin, almost non-existent light tan head and splotchy lacing. A little bit of a sheen on the beer. Aroma is potent and enjoyable, with scents of candied cherries, caramels, ham glaze, cherry popsicle stick, Flavor holds plenty of sweet candied cherry (hard candy), booze, spice, plum, perhaps toffee, and a lingering rye kick with some hop bitterness on the finish. Mouthfeel is full, carb is fine, and the booze never reaches the level of stinging. Overall a solid barleywine that I imagine would age fairly well.

12oz bottle - pours dark ruby/amber with ivory/khaki head and decent lacing. Nose is rye and caramel. Sip introduces spices (more a like vegetable/spice/herb style) and vague fruitiness. very sweet. Not the body I come to expect from a barleywine. ABV is well hidden. Generally maltiness with a spice kick. I got what I expected.

Deep leather red. Tastes like red wine, raisins, bitter aftertaste. Not very balance. Overall nothing striking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Clear chestnut pour with a thin, yellow cake colored head. Smells like toffee nuts and dark fruits simmering in port, sweet rum, burnt sugar, flaky dessert crust, herbal hops and some earthy, spicy, chocolatey grain. Flavor is big with sweet toffee nuts, dark caramel, lots of rum and date and fig laden dark fruit, roasted red apple, toasted maple, herbal hops, toasted marshmallow, enough booziness to keep it warm and tingly and sweet, earthy almost musty grain. Medium to heavy, syrupy body with a light, sharp carbonation. Really good. Nice and complex, interesting Barley Wine. It seems like it will be pretty great on an upcoming crisp autumn night with a nice cigar.
