I like this. Unique sweet rye with a well masked abv thigh maybe abut subdued compared to a barley wine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This was a big, hoppy barleywine for sure. The aroma was bready and hoppy, with a hint of caramel malts. It tasted sweet and malty as well, with a sugared-orange twang lingering down to a rye, malty finish. Not too complex, but rather a beer for beginners to "get you there".

Very aromatic, feels very dark and bold. I didnít get the opportunity to pour it and look at the color but my wager is that itís got a nice dark color. All in all an excellent beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear cherry wood with a very thin disappearing tan crown. Aroma is spicy and fruity with oak, brown sugar, mild chocolate, light rye and some noble hops. Reminds me of a mix of the wee heavy scotch and Baltic porter I just had by them. Taste of dark fruit, burnt malt, plum, alcohol, mild rye with a warm finish. I kept waiting for it to get better but it never got there.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an auburn color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is plum, raisin, alcohol, light hops, and syrupy malts. Taste is much the same. Very smooth, complex, and warming. Awesome. I need to get a 4-Pack of this and age a few for a few years.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 4/5/2014. Pours crystal clear deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, pear, apple, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toast, rye, brown bread, nuttiness, light chocolate, floral, and toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of malt and dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of big raisin, prune, pear, caramel, apple, brown sugar, toast, toffee, brown bread, rye, nuttiness, light chocolate, floral, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark/light fruits, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, rye, nuttiness, floral, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of dark/toasted malt and fruity ester flavors; with big robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barleywine style. All around great complexity and balance of flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Leinenkugelís Big Eddy Ryewine Ale has a thin-to-medium beige head, a semi-clear, red-brown (amber) appearance, some visible bubble streams, no sediment, and minimal lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich bread, cream sherry, sweetness, caramel, and nougat. Flavor is of those elements, a little metal (sadly), some alcohol, and toffee. Mouthfeel is medium and a bit slick, and Leinenkugelís Big Eddy Ryewine finishes semi-dry, surprisingly refreshing, and easily drinkable. Very little alcohol detected in this booze bomb. Overall, this is most excellent. RJT
