Appearance is deep brown with a taupe colored foam cap. Aroma is really deep, rich malt, with a hint of rye, molasses, and smoke. Taste is all malt with dark fruit, chocolate, raisin, and roasted and caramel malts. Slight spice from the rye, and roastiness increases as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice but not overwhelming thickness. Thereís just enough hop bitterness on the finish to balance it out, and definitely a nice bit of alcohol warmth, common for the style. Leaves a nice roasted malt flavor on the tongue that doesnít linger too long

Pour is a light brown. Aroma is a strong rye, it reminds me of rye whiskey before you run it thru the still. At least when I make a batch.

Pours clear, slightly reddish cola-brown with a fairly thick but effervescent buff head. Aroma has caramel, molasses and roast rye tones. Flavor is rather wine-like, fruity and a little sweet, but caramel and molasses undertones and bit of evergreen hop bitterness remind you this is a beer. Smooth mouthfeel has decent body if not a lot of fizz. Worth seeking.

Bottle @ home, found at the back of my parentís fridge. Dark brown appearance with a fluffy brown head. CIB-style, olive, green tomato, twangy, boozy nose. It smells fucken bad. Rich, goopy, and thick mouth feel. Very sweet, tart fruity, caramel, tannic flavor. More veggies in the mouth. Thick and boozy. Maybe this one has gone downhill. I certainly didnít intend to keep it for a couple of years but Iíd think itíd be fine for the style and being refrigerated the whole time. Itís nasty now, though.

Big Eddy Ryewine Ale has a thin beige head, a semi-hazy, reddish-brown body and minimal lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich bread,sherry, sweetness, caramel. Flavor is about the same, some alcohol, and toffee, not as sweet as the nose lets on. Mouthfeel is medium and a slight touch of stickiness it finishes semi-dry. Overall it pretty nice, and it seems to get mellower as i drink.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a very small and very well retained head that leaves some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is fairly sweet and a little boozy, Itís got rich toffee & some cooked fruit going on.
The flavor is actually really cohesive, itís sweet & has nice notes of cherry mild hop and alcohol spiciness, with a warming boozy presence that doesnít come across as harsh at all. The bitterness is low but lingers in the background & there is a nice bit of rich toffee and caramel.
Well put together, good beer.

The nose is mellow, but colorful, with dark fruits, prunes, figs, strawberries, toffee, and dark malts. Not as spicy as the rye would have you think. The mouthfeel is medium, with moderate carbonation and medium viscosity. The taste is bitter and slightly sweet; fruity, malty flavors at the top, with an increasingly assertive presence of ethanol that leads to a relatively sudden, dull, grainy, boozy finish. The first impression is a great one, but it starts to fall apart mid-glass as the alcohol comes to define the gustatory experience. I really enjoyed the aroma, though.

Chestnut brown pour with aroma of rye, raisins, and spice. Raisin and toffee flavor with rye and hint of spice. Very nice beer.

Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to snifters, showing a brownish copper color, with a modest layer of off white head foam, and spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was candy sweetness, slight tartness, esters as dried fruit, some pit variety, and dark cherry, with some spice & vanilla. Medium bodied, with a bit of syrup to the texture, carbonation was soft, and most of the alcohol fanfare was hidden by the candy. A fairly tasty Barleywine, though.

Pours dark, nearly opaque, chestnut brown. Brief light tan head. Faint aroma of dried fruits. Flavor starts dry rye, morphs quickly to a sweeter, fruitier place, with a deep, rich fruitcake background, dried plums. Itís more deep and rich than sweet. It develops over time. Intriguing.
