3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Clear amber color with a thin beige head. Aroma is dark fruits and alcohol. Thin body with medium carbonation. Sweet taste that reminds me of plums and cherries; only a hint of hops. I would have liked more bitterness to balance out this sweet beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This dark orange ale is thick and sweet leaning. Smells and tastes of caramel and bread and toffee, with a little more raisiny sweetness than usually in the style. Pretty enjoyable malt bomb.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Certainly not an Oktoberfest. This is more of a Scotch Ale. Caramel sweet aroma. The flavor is sticky sweet with caramel and sugar. Some alcohol peeks thru also. Sticky mouthfeel.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh, NC. Dark brownish-orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt met with an almost cherry-like presence. The taste is a nice balance of sweet caramel and a fruity essence that keeps this from becoming dull. Some moderate alcohol warming. Not a traditional marzen but that is not a bad thing in this case.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz. bottle. Malty, fruity aroma with scents of caramel and red grape. Pours a clear brass / copper with moderate effervescence and a small amount of beige head. Looks nice but not outstanding. Sweet, malty taste features flavors of lemon, melon, and muffin. Excessively sweet. Piney and citric (lime, grapefruit) hops. Medium body. Lively, frothy, and silky in the palate. Overall, not very pleasant and not very good. I would classify this as a doppelbock, not an Oktoberfest.

Draft. Just a poor maerzen. Ultra sweet and sugary. No malt complexity. Pitiful for the style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 24, 2014 Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Caramel, malt and hops in the nose. Medium body with a slightly boozy character and notes of caramel, grainy malt and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
