Pours a darker amber color with off-white head. Caramel malt and booze on the nose; follows onto the palate. Not the best oktoberfest style beer out there, but average.

Poured from a bottle producing a rather thin head. The nose is nothing to brag about. The taste is unusual, but again, not deserving bonus points - it might have a hint of bourbon barrel. It is very strong so it helped start a very relaxing evening.

Deeep orange color, almost red. Just a glimmer of head. Otherwise, looks like something you would kill for at 5:05pm in November. The aroma is serious, severe sugars. Hefty, pungent caramel. Dried leaves, brown sugar and nutmeg. The flavor is supremely sugary. Dried prunes, nutmeg, brown sugar. The nutty malts prevent it from becoming too saccharine. Has an aftertaste that is almost akin to a sour barleywine, or a slightly puckery quad. Unexpected for sure. The feel is very thick and chewy. I have to say, I am enjoying this out-of-season beer.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/2014. Pours light hazy deep orange copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, biscuit, toast, raisin, brown sugar, pear, apple, light grape, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Ok aromas with solid balance of malt and yeast ester notes; but they are very muted. Taste of big caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, toffee, raisin, pear, apple, herbal, floral, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, toffee, raisin, pear, apple, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Good balance, complexity, and robustness of malt and fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with some lightly cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and very full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is moderately well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a pretty solid imperial oktoberfest. Decent balance/complexity and big robustness of flavors; and pretty smooth to sip on. A fairly enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle serve in a DFH IPA glass A - Brilliant pecan brown body with an active off-white head. No lacing and lackluster head make this a single color beer. S - Big malts, some general hops on the edges, sweet and clean aroma. T - Caramel malts, bready, sweet, toffee, it has a peppery overtone that creates a nice bite against the string malt base. Fall spices, all spice and nutmeg come to mind. Notions of sweet pumpkin, but that could be a placebo effect. Super sweet with some welcoming alcohol swimming in on the finish. M - Low to medium carbonation, syrupy body, medium with some minor lift from the carbonation. Could use a touch more carbonation. This is a malt bomb. There’s almost enough hop edge to combat it. The syrupy elixir provides memories of fall, spicy treats and an overall warmness. You have to know what you’re getting into with this beer. It’s uber sweet with hints of roundness toward the finish. Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of caramel, fruitiness and toasted malt. Palate was medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of caramel, fruitiness, light toasted malt and a hint of earthiness with a crisp fruity finish.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear dark amber with a half finger off-white head. Aroma of fruit, nuts and caramel. Taste is heavily sweet. Fruit, nuts and caramel. Full bodied with a slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, awesome. I’ve never been a fan of the mar zen style until this brew.

Bottle:   Deep amber, a bit of a copper hue, moderate foamy light beige head, nice lacing.   A bit more hoppy and citrusy than your normal Marzen on the nose.   Me Like!   Chewy on the tongue, caramel, bready malts, but also citrusy and a bit hoppy.   More hoppy than most.   This is a really well balanced example that has the bitterness and sweetness in balance.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Finishes hoppy, but also with a citrusy sweetness, caramel breadiness, and some biscuit.   This is not your normal over the top bready/mealy/biscuity Oktoberfest, this one has some hop bitterness and citrus sweetness to really balance it out.   Hard to believe this is 8.5%.   This one really worked for me!   Thanks Bob!
