3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very Clear and Dark Crimson color. The taste is quite complex with Peated Scotch, Smoked Oak, Burnt Malts, Figs, Yeasts and Plums; all accompanied by a boozy flavor. I was surprised to find this to be incredibly smokey. Itís light bodied but the carbonation is very strong, to the point where it gets in the way of the flavor. Itís a nice try on Leinieís part: The flavor is decent and complex but needs some work along with the palate.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Big Texas Beer Fest.
The beer pours a medium brown with a tan head. The aroma is very nice and exactly what I want in a wee heavy. I get a lot of dark fruit and some peet malt, as well as some caramel and some alcohol. The flavor is more of the same. The alcohol and dark fruit notes are dominant, with the caramel and toffee malt and a little bit of smoke hiding in the background. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 4/20
I appreciate Leinenkugles trying to join the strong beer game, but this beer tastes exactly the way you would expect a Leinenkugles take on a strong style beer to taste; cheap and kinda skunky. A good time to try this beer is when youíre just getting into craft beer and you still think Leinenkugles is quality craft beer. I was expecting more and was thoroughly disappointed.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A decent scotch ale. Aroma was all malt, though not as heavy as a 9.5% beer usually is. Pour was a dark and murky brown with a one finger near tan head. Taste was roasted malt, peanut and burnt charcoal with a sweet sticky caramel aftertaste. The problem with the flavor was the finish. A slightly watery finish with just a slightly sweet aftertaste. Decent carbonation.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle - pours a clear and deep amber with thin orange head. Nose is caramel, wood, alcohol and banana. Flavor is roasty caramel, chocolate and butterscotch. Taste is sweet and a bit bitter. Easy to drink with sticky to oily texture. I wouldnít be surprised if this gets a bourbon barrel release (If not already).

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear garnet tineted brown with a thin, biege head. Aroma is peat smoke, caramel, tofee, light woody notes, floral and pine hops, yeasty white bread, a touch of coffee and a boozy mint note. Flavor is more peat smoke, sweet malt, caramel, light toffee, cereal grain, meaty salinity, a good amount of dark fruit, tons of campsite rain soaked wood and white bread crust. Palate is medium bodied, syrupy to oily on entry, has a very light, but pretty sharp and blanketing carbonation and neutral, oily and numbing (from the sharp carbonation) finish. Pretty damn good, though a bit clumsy with its palate. Smells quite nicely smokey.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark red pour, thin dissipating off white/tan head, aroma brought notes of figs, plums, dark fruits and dates, hints of anise, and caramel, slight hint of smoke, touch of earth and grass, but a pretty sweet aroma overall. Taste is a mix of dark fruits, with plum, dates, some hints of anise, caramel and toffee, hints of grass, finishes with a hint of smoky notes and fairly sweet.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, light-moderate smoke, and a hint of fruit. It pours a dark amber thatís transparent when held to the light. It has a 1/2 finger khaki colored head. About a minute later it fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. Some minimal wispy lacing is left behind. The flavor starts with molasses, brown sugar, and light caramel. It finishes light-moderately fruity with some hints of chocolate and smoke. Itís medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, the aroma gave me high expectations, but I thought the flavor that followed was a little bit of a letdown. However, for a style that hadnít been doing anything for me lately, I found this one of the better Scotch Ales that Iíve had in quite a while.
