3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear brownish caramel color with a thin head. Aroma of sweet malt, alcohol, syrup, and smoke. Taste is smokey caramel and syrup with some chocolate flavor and a relatively strong, but complimentary, alcohol presence. Medium-full bodied, pretty smooth and a bit boozy. Nice, it’s not too sweet, which is a fault (to me) of many scotch ales. I’m really shocked that this is a leinenkugel. This is well above the other leinenkugels that I’ve tried. I know it’s a special release and all, but it’s WAY above the others.

Bottle to snifter. Looks alright, but a little thin. Smells decent; what you’d expect. Tastes meh. Good...for a Leine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Flipdaddy’s, served in a snifter. Little khaki head. Clear darker red / brown color. Nice, rich caramel light smoky scotch aroma. Good, sweet and savory taste. Lighter, crisp carbonation. Decent smokey sweet aftertaste, but kind of syrupy. I’m not a big scotch ale guy so I wouldn’t choose this as a go-to, but I think this is a pretty respectable example of the style.

Clear dark ruby brown in color. Nice toasty malt and toffee aroma. Sweet herbal flavor sorta like Jägermiester. Overall a nice brew. Thanks to BarZigKin for the tasty birthday present!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAY 14, 2012 A $2.89 12oz. sized bottle of this cost me an almost $5 if drunk at the Taste of Tops bar, kind of perplexing.. Pours a syrupy ruby color with a pastel tawny head that shrunk into itself than less than five seconds of rise. Smells of sugar plums, BBQ smoked malt, lavender, pressed copper and youngish booze. Tastes predominately the same, however it’s much sweeter than I initially expected: representing caramelized raisins, cough suppressant, butterscotch, breaded chicken wings, and this sincerely odd artificial tangerine bite by mid-to-late-palate; not the same whatsoever as hop bitterness, there’s almost none of that in any sequenced part of this beer.Enjoyable for the most but not particularly interesting or good enough to ever try again.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle pour into tulip. Very nice nose: smoke, malt. Very well balanced taste. Full flavored. And yes, the high ABV has a nice, warming effect that leaves me with a favorable impression of this offering from Leinenkugel’s. I like what they do with the Big Eddy series.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma- caramel, toffee, butter, slight hops
Appearance- dark, dank, brown, thin head, decent carbonation
Taste- viscous malts, caramel, maple syrup
Palate- nice body and slick mouthfeel
Overall- One-dimensional but a decent dimension. Scotch ale’s aren’t my favorite but this is certainly worth a try.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle; Pour is golden / ruby hued with a modest fine bubbled off white head in this glass. It retains on the average side with some modest lacing present. The nose is caramel, toffee, peat, and smoke. The flavor profile is more smoke dominant than I would expect for the style. There is a hint of booze; another element I’m not looking for, with more caramel and toffee near the middle, some peat, with some dark fruits and light bitterness near the finish. It’s a decent scotch, but

(12oz bottle). Pours a clear garnet color with a thin eggshell colored head. Aroma is smoke, caramel, bread, pit fruit. Taste is sweet with ample savory smoke and a touch of bitterness. Thin to medium bodied with a slick mouthfeel. This is a pretty damn tasty beer. Well done!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A deep red, mahogany pour with a light tan head. The aroma is very malty with notes of caramel, prune, some black licorice, and slightly woody. The full body has a slick texture with soft carbonation. It has a sweet taste that warms up from the alcohol for slightly boozy finish.
