In 1906, the Kolsch-style beer originated from the Cologne region of Germany as a crisp and light beer to combat the summer heat. Leinenkugel’s® Canoe Paddler™ is our take on the Kolsch-style beer that we tweaked with a touch of rye. Our spring and summer seasonal has subtle malt flavors, a clean finish and adventurous quality.

Bottle. Pours gold with a white head. Grainy pale malty base, faint sweetness, and low bitterness. Bland, even for the style.

Clear golden pour with ring of white head. Smells and tastes a bit corny. Flavor adds good splash of spicy ryeness. Better than most other kolshes i’ve had. LIngering hint of lemon zest on the backend. Meh.

Bottle:   Pale golden, vibrant and clear, thin sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Mealy nose, very slight cider note.   Soft sweet straw/hay, but with a little tinge of metal or tin.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Soft sweet straw/hay on the finish.   The metal aspect has gone by now.   Lingering malt sweetness.   Finishes better than it starts, but seems pretty boring compared to others.   Not sure I get any of the Rye either.   Meh...

Crystal clear golden pour with a thin white head. Aroma is malty with a lot of bread and grain. Flavor is definitely grainy with bisquit and a slight sweetness. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. One dimensional but still definitely drinkable.

Rated on 08-21-2013 (Bottle) This beer pours a large white smooth head that mostly diminished, transparent body, fair amount of lacing, slow rising carbonation, and a pale yellow hue. The Aroma is malt, some rye, grainy, corn, hint of hops, sweet, and some spice. The Taste is sweet, malty, lightly hoppy, and a hint of rye. The Palate is tingly and this is a light-medium bodied beer. Overall, this beer did not leave a good impression of this beer style as the flavors just did not leave me wanting this beer again.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized very white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a typically carbonated transparent light yellow orange colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was musty. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of floral honey and hops. Not one that I would likely drink again.

Poured from a 12oz bottle, dated 3 June 2013, into a Belgian snifter. A: The beer is yellow-gold color in color with excellent clarity, topped by a thin white head most of which fades quickly. Some lacing gets left on the glass. This is a lightly flavored and delicate style of beer, so the addition of rye could easily change the character. And so it does, I think. The aroma is spicy for style. seemingly due to both hops and the rye. The flavor too is spicy for style, but not so much as to completely transform the kolsch or overpower the malts. Has a clear hint of lemon. Slightly sweet. M: Crisp; light body; near medium carbonation. O: A relatively spicy version of the style, yet without being more flavorful than average.

Had this one while I was renewing my insurance. It actually made the insurance seem interesting by comparison. Just OK but pretty boring.

Meh, it's a mild beer. Touch of rye which adds nothing yet distracts. I'd rather have something else in the future. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a bottle. Pretty good beer but vanishes a little too quickly from the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
