COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1906, the Kolsch-style beer originated from the Cologne region of Germany as a crisp and light beer to combat the summer heat. Leinenkugel’s® Canoe Paddler™ is our take on the Kolsch-style beer that we tweaked with a touch of rye. Our spring and summer seasonal has subtle malt flavors, a clean finish and adventurous quality.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a glass. Pours clear golden with small white head. Aroma is floral malt, light body, low carbonation, and some small bubble lacing. Taste is simple pilsner malt.

From a sampler on a business trip to Toledo, 2/25/2014, 12 oz bottle Nice golden pour with an ok white head. Aromas of malty sweetness, with a bit of hop offset. Taste is fairly generic, malt and hop balanced but nothing special. Mediocre palate. Another "meh" beer from these guys.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, we’ll retained whit head over a clear, gold (SRM 5) body....nose is light cereal, hints of pear, apple fruits, minimal hop spice, light rye......taste starts with hints of pear, apple type sweetness, hints of rye, ending with a mild bitter finish....mouth feel light of medium, soft acid on the finish, no alcohol warmth. This is really not a kolsch. The rye comes in way too much for this very delicate style. It would be interesting to taste the identical recipe without the rye. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6

Pours very light with slight aroma and a hint of skunk. I don’t get any rye. Light mouthfeel and clean finish. So clean in fact, that it’s hardly there. Maybe if you were paddling a canoe on a hot day....?

Pours a golden yellow with a thin fizzy white head. Looks like a slightly livelier version of a miller high life. Aroma is sweet malts, grain, grass, and a hint of skunkiness. Nothing too off putting here. Flavor is very mild. Nothing up front but it fades into a pleasant maltiness on the backend, then into a seltzer water like taste. Mouthfeel is definitely on the thinner side. Definitely not the worst beer I’ve ever had but I am kind of disappointed that I bought a whole 6 pack of it.

From bottle. Pours a very pale gold with some white head and quite a bit of carbonation. Grainy nose. Bland taste, not much rye, which it could desperately use. Not a lot going on with this. Decent warm weather quencher, but not much else.

Lighter gold color, medium head, slightly fruity aroma, slight bitters, mildly yeasty on the foot.

Pours clear and gold with a thick white foamy head. Good carbonation in the glass. To me, tastes remarkably just like Miller Lite. Has a yeasty backend with a good bit of carbo-bite on the front. The taste is kind of bland, much like Miller Lite.

Poured from 12oz brown bottle into a Willybecher glass. Clear golden colour with weak white foam. Weak malt, hops, and yeast aspects too. None of the distinct Kölsch traits: grainy, slight fruitiness, peppery noble hops. Not terrible, but sure seemed like a bland mass produced pale lager to me. It’s too bad: I like Leinenkugel’s and I love a good Kölsch, this is a real missed opportunity.

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a light golden color with a small white head of foam. Taste and aroma were identical. Not much going on. Grainy, yeasty, with some light citrus.
