COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Celebration Porter is a deep, dark chestnut beer that supports a creamy, dense brunette head. It is rich malt body gives way to the abundant chocolate notes. This Imperial porter was aged in 12-year-old Bourbon barrels for 3 months on top on of Tahitian vanilla. This added a smooth vanilla and mild barrel flavor that hides its alcohol deceptively. Available during Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 Festival.

On tap at the GTMW 2011. Dark brown with a thin brown head. Aroma of strong vanilla, alcohol, oak, dark malts and mild chocolate. Taste is boozy with strong vanilla, oak, vanilla bean, dark roasted malts and chocolate. A little too much vanilla but not too bad for a macro micro.

On tap at GTMW. Poured clear, deeper brown with a spotty beige head. The aroma was on the darker side of vanilla bean, with black patent and a little molasses providing support.. smooth and well-presented. The flavor found a lot more vanilla, plus an odd “complement” of berry-like fruits.. too heavy with sweetness, especially the berries.. a little bit woody on the back-end.. didn’t do it for me. Medium-bodied and increasingly sweet as the drink progressed.. left a cloying impression.. this went downhill from the nose.

Draft on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 (Madison, WI). Pours a pretty dark blackish hue, murky with brownish lighter edges, a bit thicker, with a small frothy loose offwhite head, dies to nothing. Aromas are vanilla, roast, touches of molasses, toffee, and caramel. Touches of oak, faint spirit, sweet and mellow vanilla, cocoa. Initial is medium bodied offering sweet vanilla beans, touches of oak, Bourbon, sweet toffee, roastded malts, touch of coffee, more vanilla. Some cocoa grows stronger. Finish is lingering sweetness, touch of oak and spirit, lighter with lingering sweet sticky malts and vanilla beans. Not bad, a surprising offering here that I’d love to try again. Perhaps a bit thinner, but a lot of vanilla (sweeter, could have used a touch more roast) seems to cover up a couple nuances.

GTMW. Nice notes of vanilla, wood, coconut, dark fruit and very light roast malt. Initial vanilla sweetness that is a touch artificial followed by a moderate roast malt/coffee flavor and some barrel-flavors. Mild hopping. Some residual sweetness and roast flavor. Pretty nice.
