Trev (448), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA May 11, 2008 pours a dark brown with a light tan head.
Aroma is a little coffee, a little nutty.
Flavour is sweet malt, a touch of smoke. Slightly creamy yet clean finish.
Not too bad. I actually liked it better out of the bottle though, so I don’t know what that says about it...
MartiniFiend (47), Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle, Pours dark with a large tan head. Roasted mallt aroma. creamy palate. Nice roated malt taste but a lttle weak for my blood. BlockBrew (48), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Jul 5, 2008 Not bad. Dark with a tan head. Roasted malts with slight creamy feel. A medium dark beer with similar palate as other Leinenkugel beers. BeerBaron617 (63), Novi, Michigan, USA Jun 28, 2008 Had this on tap at my local Hooters bar. It was the only decent sounding beer they had so I gave it a whirl. It’s Leinenkugel, so I half exected it to be a watery mess, but it actually wasn’t that bad. Some slight coffee and malt on the nose, with a surprisingly good appearance. The flavor was a bit watery, but not as much as I’d expected. Overall a very drinkable dark beer, that went very well with the fried pickles(mmm!) i had. davidCC (119), New York, USA Jun 28, 2008 A decent beer from a brewer I am not terribly fond of. Pours brown with tan dissipating head. Tastes of dark roasted malts, a little creamy in texture. Overall not bad. machfive55 (31), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 27, 2008 Pours a nice dark chocolatey brown color with no head but a good carbonation. There is a nice malty aroma and a very faint hop aroma. The beer has a good flavor to it with some good malty backbone. There is a nice clean yeast profile which you would expect in a lager. The beer is fairly subdued compared to a stout, not nearly as rich, even though it is not a stout so I don’t know why I’m comparing it to a stout. For a dark beer I’d like to see this have some more backbone to it, there isn’t much mouthfeel and I’d expect that in a dark beer like this. I’d also like to see some more flavor complexity and some more interesting things in the maltiness, maybe some more roastiness or chocolatey flavor. There is a good balance between bitterness and maltiness here as well. It was an enjoyable beer for me, but just lacking in some places.
