3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. After reading the posts on rating from notes, I'm trying to rate this trip to the "Leinie's Tackle Box" live on the computer.
A nice beery malty odor rises when I pop the crown, but a closer whiff gave me a touch of adjunct? Pours nice and ruby dark, with a spongy head that fades quickly, some lacing. Taste is nice and "clean," but a little hop bitterness lingers. Good roast malt, almost a stoutish tone to it. Touch of lager yeast bite in there, too. Certainly a good, drinkable beer. Wonder if the difference between this and say, the Berry Weiss is that this may be made only at the Chippewa Falls plant and not meg-produced to support Miller's big avertising pushes? Guess I should have stopped at the Leinie Lodge on my trip to Minneapolis last weekend after all.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle in La Crosse, WI. Slightly toasty aroma with faint hazelnut and red fruit. Clear, dark mahogany under a thin, off-white collar and patch. Sweet, buttery nutty flavor that quickly dries out with a slight carbonic bite. Flavorful yet delicate and well balanced. Medium light body, medium carbonation, crisp.

Pours a dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, some roast, and earthy hops. Flavor has a metallic tinge to it, with toffee and caramel dominant, along with some earthy hops. Has a very low bitterness and a thin body. Decent.

S - like the taste, main aroma is toasted malts
T - no flaws, yet not an exceptional brew worthy of strong recommendation. Minimal hop presence. malty aftertaste.
M - smooth and, as advertised, a bit creamy.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Robe brune avec une mousse qui tient moyennement. Arômes café et fumé goût café et fumé. Pas d’arrière goût. Texture crémeuse. Dommage, avec un goût un peu renforcé, ça serait une bonne brune.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Almost Black With Shades Of Red, Medium Small Head, No Lacing. Faint Toasted Malt Aroma. Taste of Toasted Malt, Vanilla, Coffee Like Bitter Finish. Vanilla Gives Creamy Feeling, Although it is Thinner Than Looks And Taste Suggest. Decent Enough To Enjoy. OK.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 8/17/2015. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a very good schwarzbier style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth, clean, and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
