Our newest year round beer. A true German Helles brewed with five American hops. Crisp and refreshing Helles beer meets pleasant citrus hop character from Citra, Simcoe, Cluster, Centennial, and Chinook hops.

The date on the bottle says "May 26, 2014." I poured this into a pilsener as the brewer believes this to be a Munich Helles Lager. I’m unsure why it is labeled an APA on here. No worries, here goes. The appearance was a nice crisp clear golden color with rapid carbonation filling a two finger white foamy head that dissipates at a nice pace. There’s a fair amount of bubbles within the head and the lacing clings softly in a slight spider web sort of way. The smell tries to have some slight bitter yet crisp spicy hops but for the most part they’re pretty subdued and end up letting a fair amount of earthy malts invade the aroma. The taste is actually quite balanced between crisp spicy hops to the earthy malts. There isn’t any aftertaste but there is a quick dry finish. On the palate, it sits pretty light and does show a nice sessionable aspect about it. The carbonation seems good for a Munich Helles Lager. Overall, not a bad beer, but this is no where close to an American Pale Ale. Also, as a Munich Helles Lager, it also seems a bit under sweetened. Is this a cross between the two? Perhaps and still worthy of having during Summer sessions whatever this beer tries to be.

12oz bottle. A nice golden color with a one finger head. Not much aroma coming from it. Slightly hoppy aroma I guess. Taste is slightly hoppy and watered down. Ends bitter. Not a huge fan.

Great aroma although I'm getting over a cold so I can't get specific. Anyway, the taste is a nice hoppy bite and it gets a nice bitter flavor that increases for the initial second on the palate and then calms to a nice smooth palate. Very drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This would act as a decent pool-side beer, but as far as everything else is concerned, skip it.

Pours light golden yellow with white head which dissipates quickly and leaves no lacing. Slight hop smell overpowered by biscuit aroma. Light bodied, not very much bitterness or maltyness. Tastes more like a bmc pilsner. The 5 hops are not an ample flavor.

Pours a beautiful gold with a big white head and lots of effervescence. Nose is lightly of hops. Nice and creamy on the palate, the taste is of lightly roasted grains balance well with various hops. A good tasting straight forward beer, leaning toward a pale ale style. Pairs well with turkey club on marble rye.

5/24/2014: Leinenkugel’s Hoppin’ Helles... Floral hop aroma with a bit of light biscuit malt. Flavor is hoppy, but not overly assertive and sems to be a blend of traditional spice and floral hops along with some melon and some citrus. The maltiness is a bit dryand biscuity which isn’t necessarily enough differentiation to call this out as a Helles rather than just another Pale Ale. overall, it’s light and refreshing and good enough for a warm, breezy day while lounging around the yard. 12 fl. oz. bottle (5.5% alc./vol.; AUG1114). Rating #159 for this beer.

Bottle. Pours a clear, medium gold color with a billowing white head that reduces rather quickly into a thin blanket. Loose, sudsy lacing along the glass. Aroma has a fair bit of malty sweetness up front with citrus hops soon to follow. Flavor is crisp and clean with a touch of hop bitterness in the finish. Easy drinking.
