Our newest year round beer. A true German Helles brewed with five American hops. Crisp and refreshing Helles beer meets pleasant citrus hop character from Citra, Simcoe, Cluster, Centennial, and Chinook hops.

Got to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Decent aroma. The malt has a smooth bread taste that isn’t too sweet and isn’t too heavy. The hops create a nice fruit balance. The Citra and Centennial hops really shine by imparting a citrus taste that is even and refreshing. I’d happily have one of these, again.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2014 Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a nucleated pint glass. Crystal-clear golden colour with deep sudsy white foam, long-lasting with lace. Definite American hops aromas right away: grapefruit, pine sap, black currants, Hoppier than a classic Helles lager, bigger and more complex by far than I expected from a Miller subsidiary. Nice grainy, candy-sweet pils malt base underneath, hints of black pepper and vanilla, ever so slight DMS which is true-to-style. Light body, smooth carbonation, well-rounded mouthfeel, lingering bittersweet aftertaste which eventually finishes with a dry hoppy snap. Crisp and refreshing, but with unexpected layers. Wow, this is surprisingly tasty beer, go Leinies!

A pint at Rebos. Very good a drinkable beer. Has a hint of hoppiness but is very smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Smell is mild, pours golden, fully transparent with a little white head that dissipates into a lace. Taste is pretty mild for a hoppy beer. Overall a little better than average.

Tap at the bar in Rothschild wi. Pours light amber with lasting off white head. Very citrusy. Nice IPA out of Minnesota, perhaps my favoring linenkugela beers ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a clear golden color from the bottle with aromas of hay, malt, light hops and and a touch of toast. Flavors are the same light lemony hops in the flavor this beer works if in a pinch.

This bottled brew from a grocery store poured a head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were very long lasting and left behind a typically carbonated transparent straw yellow colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy and floral. The bubbly crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mild hoppy aftertaste. The semi-sharp flavor contained notes of Cascade hops floral and hops. An OK brew just nothing special.

12 oz, bb Jan 2014. Clear pale golden with an active body that sustains a small creamy disc of bubbles. Aroma is lightly spicy grain, dry grass and soured lemons. Taste is toast, spicy dry grass with touches of earthy honey and lightly tart citrus. Light body has medium-high carbonation that drinks fairly smoothly. Too thin and dry to be a hallmark of the style, but surprisingly drinkable.

Aroma is light hops, grassy. Taste is also light hops, crisp. Enjoyable but not great. Worth it at a sale price, not at a premium price. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Well, it is not a true German Helles with these American hops, but what they hell do I care? It smells highly grassy (even skunky) and I am totally happy with that. This is a hoppy beer, bought at room temp at a BP gas station in Yellow Springs, OH and then refridgerated. I like the hoppiness. Totally drinkable. Subtle. Excellent conditioning, color is wonderful. The bready malt flavor with a little sweetness is all there. Doesn’t fall apart when warm so WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU WANT? Ok, bye folks. This is a long time in coming but I’m out of Ratebeer entirely. Quitting alcohol for at least a year. I quit for 14 years, I restarted for 14 years, and I’m taking a break.
