Our newest year round beer. A true German Helles brewed with five American hops. Crisp and refreshing Helles beer meets pleasant citrus hop character from Citra, Simcoe, Cluster, Centennial, and Chinook hops.

This pours a clear, yellow straw color with a slight, white head. The aroma is very grass and grain like. The texture is thin but there is a decent punch in the taste. There is a lot of grain and straw that gives it a very earthy taste. Fairly well made for a Leinenkugel’s product.

A killer mash up of American hops and traditional German malts and technique. Clean and crisp, Hoppin Helles showcases its hop profile while allowing the underlying classic German malt to carry it forward. Pretty golden with ample lacing sliding off its frothy head. A great everyday quarter that is not content to sit idly by while the classics of the style take center spotlight.

Decent lager, crackery dry malts, floral and herbal hops, a little citrus to boot. Overall crisp and nice to drink. Pale golden, lightly cloudy, foamy head. Mostly balanced.

bottle. clear pale gold with a medium, fluffy white head. moderately sweet, moderately hoppy, corn flakes aroma. a hoppy helles, but not overly so. fresh, floral and grassy notes, which is odd considering the type of american varietals used here. anyway, its an enjoyable beer.

This I liked. Aroma is hops, bread & grass. Pours a standard medium yellow body with a white head. Taste is hoppy with just right amount of subtle sweetness. Easy drinking & would definitely have again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Well, it is not a true German Helles with these American hops, but what they hell do I care? It smells highly grassy (even skunky) and I am totally happy with that. This is a hoppy beer, bought at room temp at a BP gas station in Yellow Springs, OH and then refridgerated. I like the hoppiness. Totally drinkable. Subtle. Excellent conditioning, color is wonderful. The bready malt flavor with a little sweetness is all there. Doesn’t fall apart when warm so WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU WANT? Ok, bye folks. This is a long time in coming but I’m out of Ratebeer entirely. Quitting alcohol for at least a year. I quit for 14 years, I restarted for 14 years, and I’m taking a break.

Got to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Decent aroma. The malt has a smooth bread taste that isn’t too sweet and isn’t too heavy. The hops create a nice fruit balance. The Citra and Centennial hops really shine by imparting a citrus taste that is even and refreshing. I’d happily have one of these, again.

Not too hoppy. Very nice nose and pleasant taste. The body is more on the the thin side. Great all around every day beer.

Draft pour on tap at GTMW 2013 (Madison, WI). Pours a nice glowing golden stark hue, healthy rich glow, mellow carbonation and loose whitish head. Dies to a ring, laces small. Aromas are gentle citrus, fruit, and bready malt. A bit tame but fruity, vibrant. Initial is dry, a bit fruity. Clean malt profile, bready and straw. Some dough, gentle citrus, tropical fruit. Clean and dry. Initial is dry, clean, small and quite drinkable. Decent hopping is dry, a touch bitter. Nice profile. Not a dominant hop beer, but a touch of unique and tasty hops goes a long way with a sessionl lager. Nice.

Leinenkugel’s Hoppin’ Helles has a medium, white head, and a clear, brilliant, deep gold appearance, with some bubble streams and lots of white flakes roiling around. Lacing is very thin. The aroma is of pungent, slightly lemony malt, with a bit of an oil smell. Taste is of medium-roasted malt, some sweetness, a pleasant hop bitterness, a touch of lemon, and an underlying olive oil note, which I sometimes pick up with Dortmunder-style lagers. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Leinenkugel’s Hoppin Helles finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, semi-dry, and easy drinking. Overall, this is quite enjoyable and obviously well crafted. RJT
