Is there such a thing as bad Marzen? Leinenkugel’s brews a straight-forward presentation of the style. I find the color pleasing and enticing, the nose about right, and it goes down smooth. It’s not the best but it’s good.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a deep golden amber with a one finger off white head. Aroma is sweet with caramel. Creamy mouthfeel with a nice bit of caramel and malt on the tongue. Flavor is good bit disappears too quickly. It just vanishes too quickly for my taste. Not bad Oktoberfest beer but I wished the flavor lingered a bit more.

Overall a good brew. Worth the taste. The flavor is mild and the aftertaste is passing. Decent but not flavorful enough for a great fall brew.

Tastful beer. One of the better Oktoberfest brews made. Soothing and rich flavor that pleases the palate.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft sample at Cincy Beerfest 2014 on Fountain Square. Pours a clear orange-amber with a small beige head that doesn’t last long. Notes of toasted and caramel malts, nuts, earth, straw, grass, and some muddled fruit. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a malty but light and almost watery mouthfeel. Pretty generic American take on the style, but not bad.

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark amber with a small, tight bubbled beige head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is toast and nutty malt, dates and light earthy hops. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, light hops and bitterness, somewhat dirty and a sweet finish. Medium body and light carbonation.
